Watercolor Technique(s)

There are different ways to watercolor your stamped image. Here is an easy way. This is one of my favorite techniques.

- Stamp image with archival ink on watercolor paper. (I used 100# texured watercolor paper from Meade.)
- Color image with dye-based markers. (You don't need to be careful. You can go beyond the lines.)
- Spritz with enough water to cause the ink to run.
- Use a heat tool to arrest ink movement and to start drying the paper.
- Iron the paper to flatten.
- Optional: you can add more color if desired. I didn't.
- Use as desired.

This ATC features my favorite flower stamp, Chi Blossom, from OnyxXpressions. I stamped the sentiment at the very end when it was totally dry.

This is very pretty! Did you put any color in the background or did it just run there when you sprayed?

I love using watercolors !.. Most of my backgrounds on my envie's were done with watercolors. I've both lowered & extended the sky/grass many times as needed....it's so easy to do using watercolors.

I wonder if I should have called this a Faux Watercoloring technique?

So, Wolf, you like to use artist watercolors? The ones that come in tubes and you add a little water to them? They are fun too.

Sometimes I do like to use watercolor pencil and then a wet brush.

Sometimes I use watercolor pencils and then a wet brush. Other times I get out my Twinkling H2Os. The dye based markers gave a neat result, so maybe will do that next time I want to add color. Dontcha just LOVE having options?

Most of my scenic pieces have @ least some water coloring in them. I have used pencils,twinks, cheap ones; the one thing I haven't bought isbetter quality tube water colors.

Tube watercolors can be squeezed onto a plastic plate or pallet. What ever dries up on the plate can be used later on by just wetting them again. Once dried, they work just like the cheap pan paints. Tube colors may have better pigments and do come in more shades and colors. For instance, there is often a warm and cool shade of every primary and secondary color.
