Black Pearls Technique

Black Pearls Technique: This Technique is a bit time consuming, so make lots of backgrounds so you'll have plenty for later use.

You will need paper napkins or paper towels, aluminum foil, black acrylic paint, foam paint brush, glue, Pearl Ex, palette or paper cups.

-Spread a piece of aluminum foil on your work surface.
-Place napkin or paper towel on foil.
-Use a foam paintbrush to paint paper towel with black acrylic paint. Wrinkles are OK and add to the texture. The paint soaked napkin will be fragile and adhere to the foil.
-Allow paper towel to dry. This may take overnight. (You may heat it with a heat tool, but be careful not to bubble the paint -- although, that would only add to the texture; and we know you meant it.)

When the painted napkin is dry:
-Pour white glue into a few paint wells.
-Mix each well of glue with a different color of Pearl Ex to make several PE-glue-mixtures.
-Dip a baby wipe or sponge into Pearl Ex-Glue mixture and daub colors all over the painted paper towel.
-Allow to dry completely, and use as desired.

-try a different dark color of acrylic paint.
-try metallic paint instead of Pearl Ex and Glue.

If you try this Technique, I hope you will show us what you make!

Wonderful, rich colors. I like it.

After everything dries, does the sheet peel off the foil? Does it have more body?

Mine is stuck to the aluminum foil and I'm using it that way.

I wonder if this would work with freezer paper instead of foil and maybe then peel off?

I don't see why it wouldn't. If you try it, fab, let us know.

Here are a couple ATCs I made out of this background. (I scanned them through the pocket folder and there is a little glare.)

They look great! Are the words and butterfly embossed in white? What are the red and black bands across the cards and how were they done? Was that on purpose or by accident.

I layered a piece of Black Pearls background on pink, then black. The butterfly and words are embossed with white embossing powder. I don't see the red and black bands. Are they the wrinkles in the BP background?
