Default Oh! for the love of organization!

Some time ago, I was trying valiantly to categorize my stamps according to company. Of recent, I've decided to ditch that idea for several reasons:
  • ease and simplicity
  • too many stamp companies have gone by the wayside
  • the time factor

My new idea, which I'm almost finished with aside from the actual cataloging involved:
  1. removing the labels from the existing bins
  2. separating stamps by categories into bins
  3. relabel bins according to categories I've chosen: botanical, alphabets, borders / backgrounds, sentiments, household, people, animals, structures / transportation / weather
  4. stamp images in black ink on used manila folders punched and cut to fit a three ring binder (I have an abundance of used manila folders courtesy of my husband's company)
  5. place finished manila folders in three ring binder

My project list is far from through, but I'm on my way!

It sounds like a good plan, Roberta. I do something similar. Whenever I store or file something, I always ask myself where would I look first to find it again. My binder has a table of contents with all my categories and alphabetical tabs, and I stamped out the category name at the top of the first page of each category.

My husband once worked in an office where the secretary would file information about the companies they dealt with under the saleman's first name or, even worse, under "T" for "The." He finally set up his own files and wouldn't let her near them.

Lady Kestrel,

Your story about your husband's secretary made me laugh.

I like the idea of stamping out the name of the category at the top of each page. Your table of contents sounds simple enough. Mind if I adopt those ideas?
