Default The Actual Cataloging of My Images

Most of my images have been catalogued and this thread is to showcase how I went about it. Perhaps it will work for you, perhaps not. Whatever the case, my hopes are that you will glean something that is of benefit to you.

On my thread here: http://www.rubberstampchat.net/showthread.php?t=5919 , I have a couple pages worth of images that I'm looking for the companies that made them.

When I first started cataloging my images, I realized I wanted something fairly efficient but also easy to use. Don had recently presented an idea of using pizza boxes. It just so happened that I had recently purchased a stack of unused pizza boxes for Cash & Carry, a local restaurant supply distributor.

The whole process was more or less brought together all at once. I decided to use color coding as part of my legend. My original idea was a little more tedious.

With the use of the colors in my legend along with the names of the categories on the fronts & tops of my pizza boxes, a standard process was formed. The abbreviations on the pizza box fronts were part of my old system.

As I stamped the images based on my legend (which you'll see in the next post), they were put into their appropriate named pizza box.

During cataloging, I noticed three types of basic categories.

Stampin' Up sells sets of stamps with names. You will notice on their page that I have drawn in black lines around each set in order to keep them separate as well as to show what stamp in associated with their set name.

I Brake For Stamps recently purchased the rights to Rubber Romance. I have put a *near each name of the Rubber Romance images to show that they are now owned by IBFS. In my binder, they still each have their respective pages. This page and is not shown on this thread as it is under rework which won't happen until after we move.

And last, but certainly not least, are the companies that sell only individual stamps such as All Night Media, showcased here:

Your system seems good for unmounted stamps because the company names aren't on the stamps.

Most of my mounted stamps have the company's name on the wood or else I write it on in permanent ink. I categorize by subject both in my index looseleaf notebook and in my storage drawers. Any raw rubber or cling cushion stamps I have get put into a plastic bag with the name of the company until I get around to mounting them.

Ahhhh...that's one category I missed - my mounted stamps, of which I do have a few.

These receive similar treatment as the stamps that are sold singley and are then housed within their respective pizza box as shown in the Transportation & Household pizza box pic.

Roberta, organization is for people who are just too darn lazy to look for stuff.
