Default Embossing Folders & Wood Veneer

After seeing all of the posts Craft Curmudgeon has posted, I got to wondering about embossing wood veneer with an embossing folder using my Cuttlebug. Lo & behold! Wouldn't you know...someone already posted something on their blog. Sometimes I like to blaze a new trail and other times I'd rather have someone blaze it for me. This was one of those times. Scroll down a bit to see what this artist came up with.

This works terrific for a masculine card, which I needed to make for my BIL's birthday that is quickly coming up. The first pic is of the veneer I embossed with an embossing folder called Zebra (I still believe it looks more like woodgrain than zebra stripes). The second pic is of the finished card:

Well I agree it looks a lot like wood grain, especially in that color. What did you do with the veneer to prevent splitting when you embossed it?

I didn't do any prep to the veneer prior to embossing it because it's paper backed.

Oh, I did not know that. That would help hold it all together.

This is some of the wood veneer that WoodVeneerMan blessed me with some time ago. If you'd like me to send you some, Fab, let me know.

Is "Woody" still in business? I haven't seen him on RSC in a long while. His veneer was the best in the business.

Last I heard, he had gone into business with a friend of his. But it's been at least a couple of years since I have been in contact with him.

I "ran" into him a couple of years ago on another forum. He was going to send me some veneers to make samples with and I never got any so I PM'd him to say the shipment must have gotten lost and he said he was in the midst of a remodel and hadn't had a chance to get it in the mail. Last I ever heard from him. I've often wondered if he was okay or if something happened but didn't want to ask again as he might have taken it wrong that I just wanted "free" stuff. Didn't see him around at that forum anymore either but then it was pretty slow place and I gave it up too.

Stacy, if you still want a few pieces to play with, send me your addy. He gave me so much that I'm still working on using it all. I have some pieces in the following sizes: ATC size, regular card size and bookmark size. All are precut and have paper backing. I have some light and some darker pieces of each. I will most happily share.
