Default How to PM an individual?

I suppose this is really basic....and I see I have private messages but for the life of me I can't figure out how to write to a specific member (you Amy, at the moment) and be sure it's really private and I'm not shouting out to the whole RSC world!

Thanks.

I DO find the forum format daunting. There is SO MUCH information....room after room and layer after layer....I need a special GPS system just to get me where I want to go....and then back home again.

But I am going to conquer it this time.........with lots of help, of course.

Thanks.

Charlotte

Don't know if members accounts are different from vendor accounts.

Members see a line that says Private Messages under their Welcome, username in the right hand corner. If a member clicks the Private Messages it brings them to their private message area.

In Private Messages on the left hand side there is a Send or Write message. Once that is clicked a format to write the message appears. Members can write in other members usernames but a prompt also comes up after a few characters so you can pick who you want PM. There is also a line for the title or subject of the message. Lower still is the frame to write your message. You can preview or edit your message before you send it. Once you are done you hit submit message and it goes only to the folks you want the message sent to.

Hope this helps!

You can also pm someone from threads too, just click on a name and a box drops down with several options including pm's to that person.

RSC isn't so hard to navigate once you get used to some of the basics as it is all done the same. Its just learning/getting used to the basics that can be frustrating and where everything is.

Thanks to both of you for your help.

I've cut and pasted the info to make a "cheat sheet" and I'm going to go give it a try.

In my former life as a working stiff one of the hardest part of training a new person was getting them over the "fear" of the various programs they had to use. I would look at the oh so serious and tell them, "you know it's just a computer and pushing the wrong button is NOT going to blow the thing up".

Oh contrare!!! I suffer the one-button-crash syndrome. I do my web page...at least twice most times because I've gotten in a hurry or careless.

But, maybe, with you at my side........ Because your directions made sending you a private message easy.

Now if I can just remember.....where I put my cheat sheet!

Thanks.

The 'it's just a computer' works today. But back in the dark ages I finished making changes to a user guide and then while moving it to it's database storage area accidently deleted it. Gone, all those changes. Fortunately backups were done every day back then and I only had to re-do the changes the next day.

It is hard learning all the tricks - didn't realize you could PM folks from the threads Stacy. That's really cool!
