Default New stamp not printing well?

When a stamp is made there is some sort of mold release on the die that makes the stamp image. I have no idea what it is but sometimes it looks a bit shiny or feels greasy.

What I do is test stamp then clean the stamp really well. For some reason this works better then just cleaning it. If the stamp is still funky I use a little liquid Dawn dish soap on a sponge then rinse really well.

Obviously this will not fix a stamp that is defective. Areas of a stamp that will not print might be because of this grease (or whatever it is) but this is usually due to that area of the stamp not being parallel with the rest of the image. You might be able to compensate by stamping and putting more pressure on the stamp.
