I just got the sad news that the rubber stamp store that is like four blocks from my apartment will be closing their Redmond location due to problems with renewing their lease.

Rubber Soul will keep their Poulsbo store open, and will likely start some kind of on-line business, but I won't be able to have a delightful rubber browse anymore whenever I want it.

Jeff, I'm sorry to hear you will no longer have a stamp store that's just minutes away. It happened to me a couple of years ago and I still miss the convenience.:hissy: But it was fun while it lasted. :p

Dang, Jeff!!! My sincerest condolences. What is it with our county that is so lethal to rubber stamp stores? I'm down to only one store in my area (Impress in Tukwila) & it's about a 1/2 hour drive away. Those of you in other areas may see lists in magazines with many RS stores in WA, but most of those are not convenient driving distances for those of us not living in Seattle proper or in rural WA.

Thank goodness for the internet!!! :lovie:

Boy do I understand and feel for you Jeff...There is no dedicated lss, or paper store in my area period. One store has a tiny nook in it for some things. We had a great Stamp store in one of the closer towns but she closed up ready to do other things...If it were not for the wonderful on-line stores here I would be parked permanently in the rubber room sobbing! I know it is not the same thing and walking around and touching wonderful product but my deepest sympathy for your loss. When I go visit family I run around like a mad woman hitting all the stores in the area from box to quaint personal ones but they are becoming fewer and further between.:confusion:

Dang that stinks Jeff, nothing like cruising through a little rubber, ink and paper for a pick me up. Boy do I feel lucky to have Tina and her store Imprints in the area. Granted its not around the corner from me 20 - 30 minutes actually but it is close to the nursing home my grandmother is in and a nice mall so I don't mind the drive.

;) Jeff call the airlines book a flight to DFW and then you can go to the 2 conventions here in a couple of weeks, literally 2 weekends in a row. Between the conventions and the after hours party at Imprints you would have a "fix" that should last for quite a while.

I hear it all the time from company reps and vendors when I'm at Imprints or a convention but here it goes again: Support the small business when you can, they won't be around if enough of us don't.

Sorry to hear that they are closing their location. Losing the smell of fresh rubber is a hard thing to get over. I did find a small shop that I figure is about 1 hour from you. You might want to check it out. www.scarlet-empress.com
Remember, Jeff, there will be a convention in Portland in March & another in Puyallup in May. Plus with enough warning you could even come visit me & we'll do some in my area. I'm just crazy enough to drive 60+ miles oneway for a good stamp shop.
As for what Stacy said, tis true. If we don't support the small businesses they won't be around when we need them. I, myself prefer the small shops, for many reasons besides that, but I will drive a little out of my way or spend a little more on the right thing instead of pinching a penny or dealing with insolent staff. (I'm special & you owe me this job! Ha!) ~C8>

That's only because you don't have Valet parking, and haven't advertised the all you can eat rubber buffet.:D. Those silly tourists don't know what they are missing. ~C8>

You betcha!!! Many of the RSC vendors have added new images since Sept & I still have stuff on wishlists left over from last time too. I want to be able to buy from all my favorite vendors and stay up for 24-36 hours straight to do it. Just like last time!!! :))

The last I heard was Amy was planning on doing one again in April as part of the one year birthday for RSC. The first one was last Sept to celebrate RSC gaining 1000 members & was SO totally AWESOME I stayed up all the first night shopping often going to vendor's sites minutes after their virtual booths opened!!! :))

Don't forget to take your vitamins too! And stock up on computer safe food & beverages. Maybe a mini fridge under the computer desk? Oh & a pillow for the chair. Comfy jammies are a must along with warm slippers. And last & but not least...a sign for the door that says "Do Not Disturb! Marathon Virtual Stamp Convention Shopping In Progress." :)) :)) :))

Also make sure that there is food in the fridge that the family can prepare themselves, train the pets to feed, water & walk themselves, disconnect the phone in the craftroom unless it is the only one in the house and make sure the ENTIRE family knows that unless someone is bleeding or the house is on fire that you will not be disturbed during this time period. And if you really want to go extreme you can always stock up on astronaut diapers. :)) ~C8>

I said "if you really want to go extreme", not that I wanted you in them. I'm past my truely kinky days.:)) Now I'm only mildly kinky. :))

No!!! Where will I go to get my Rosie's Roadshow fix? Can't they open another store somewhere on the eastside? Are they officially closed yet? I haven't been since the end of December.

No, they've decided to only keep Poulsbo open and try to get an on-line business going. The store's last day was January 27th, so they're gone now. It's very depressing walking to rehearsal and having to pass the empty shell of the storefront.

Rubber stamping in gernal is taking things full circle(again). I can remember when you couldn't find rubber stamps for sale anywhere outside of the big markets and this was before the internet existed. Stamps were discovered by word of mouth. Today many stores are in a slump and others merged with scrapping. But true rubber stampers are here to stay. It's only the where we buy that changes. We represent this art form by stamping and making cards or stamping in other ways. Keep the faith! Stamping is here to stay.
