As I was going through cards so I could make them into thank you cards today I heard a plop, and then a plop, plop. Sure enough our ceiling was leaking down the hutch where all the Christmas cards, Christmas photos and numerous hand-made cards from my stamp club buddies, friends and my Secret Santa were posted! Can you say panic attack? ? ? Hubby hasn't even read the letters in some of the cards and all those homemade cards could be ruined, and the pic of a college roommate and her family - she hasn't sent a photo in years!
Does it count that no organizing fairy came to the house to move my stuff into my new file cabinet/drawers which I have already 3/4s of the way full and I didn't buy any new stuff? ? ? If the water had moved down the ceiling much further it would have been in my craft area, too?
And someone has their ATCs done already? ? ? Waa. . .it's only the first day of the new year and I already feel behind.

Sure enough our ceiling was leaking down the hutch where all the Christmas cards, Christmas photos and numerous hand-made cards from my stamp club buddies, friends and my Secret Santa were posted! Sorry about the leaky roof. It seems to always find the one thing that is irreplacable too.
Does it count that no organizing fairy came to the house to move my stuff into my new file cabinet/drawers which I have already 3/4s of the way full and I didn't buy any new stuff? ? ? If the water had moved down the ceiling much further it would have been in my craft area, too?I think the Fairy is still hung over from all the New Year's parties she orginized last minute.
And someone has their ATCs done already? ? ? Waa. . .it's only the first day of the new year and I already feel behind.

Update: Managed to save all family cards but two from his side of the family - no big deal, especially when we got one card the day before New Year's and hadn't displayed it yet; long story. Pix and handmade cards were all saved. Hooray!
Today's update: Water creeps so it found the window above my new storage unit. No damage to it but my cardboard ink pad storage unit is going to be history. . .I'm open to suggestions on what to get. It was really too small - how many SUp, Pallette, Brilliance, Stazon, etc., pads can one need? Lots and lots! I'm thinking of one that would hold my markers and some refills, too but am worried how tall, not wide, so I don't block Pieces view to the birds and squirrels. . .ah, without the ink pad storage Pom has managed to jump that high today, too!
So, stamp crafting is on hold until we are sure my art won't get dripped on over night and that Pieces won't maul it on the desktop. Yup! I can actually see the desktop once again.:))

Yup! I can actually see the desktop once again
Nothing like a little forced clean up and organize time to start off the New Year!
If a cardboard storage container was the only loss, then you were indeed lucky. Look on the bright, while you may be thinking "great I really didn't need to spend money this soon after christmas", there are lots of January white sales right now. Maybe fate is just trying to help you save money in the long run.
Did you buy that piece of optimism?....................... didn't think so, oh well. Hopefully what ever it was that leaked and is broken didn't/won't cost too much to fix. Glad you didn't lose any treasures<3 .

We've gone into deep freeze so everything is fine now - don't know what will happen over the weekend. We are expected to get a little warmer so I'm crossing my fingers.
Should be able to get crafting done after we put the Christmas decorations away. A bunch are sitting on the dining room table so they wouldn't get ruined. I'm amazed - the cats have not pushed any of them off the table! ! ! Yes, cats - we have three and I fully expected at least two of them to be playing. . .

I'm cracking myself up! I've been working today on the ATCs and grumpling at too inky new ink pads, trying out my Copic markers, etc. Reorganized my supplies and can't find the adhesive remover; it's here somewhere! So why am I laughing now that they are almost done and ready to go into the envelope? We are expecting a foot of snow starting at 3 AM. So how am I going to get to the P.O. to send them out to Glomom23? ? ?
I should have been working on my friend's challenge card, all white - 'cause she doesn't like snow, her hubby plows and she ends up using the tractor on their very l o n g driveway), instead. It's now dark and I probably won't be able to see what I'm doing. Maybe I'll attempt it after dinner. . .

I messed up on mine also! I ALWAYSmake one for myself. It's something I have done from the beginning of my journey into the world of ATC. I have one of every ATC I have every made.. I thought I made 5 but dang it, only 4. Pretty sad when you don't really feel like making another one, eventho you can and you plan on keeping one of your four when they are swapped out!!!!

I cut enough for six - when I got to the end of stamping and coloring my test one, an embellishment didn't work with one of the original inks. So, five got the matching ink. . .sounds good, right? I have the fifth with one element not quite the same as the others. . .adhered it incorrectly. It's fine otherwise so that one is mine.
I did learn from my first go round and always make 6 now, even though 4 may only make it to the swappees!

Mine should be hitting the mail Thursday.
I always make 10, but this time I only had enough of this paper for 8. I screwed one completely up, so that left 7. I smudged one, so I'm down to 6. Oops - one is in reverse so only 5 match.
I'm sending the 4 that are alike in the mail.

California mail can be funny -- I mailed a greeting card to a church friend -- I could've driven to her house in about 5 minutes. It took a week to get from my mailbox at home to hers and that was in the same town, same zip code (the whole town only had 2 zip codes)!

02-07-2008, 03:26 PM
Maybe explaining how mail moves around the post may help. I've gone thru the exact same thing but a very patient carrier explained it to me & it is a little less frustrating. Even if you drop an envie at your PO that PO may not have the space to sort the mail so it may have to be shifted from there to one or two buildings until it gets to the local processing center. get processed there then have to go back the same way even if it is only a few blocks away. EX: Sis & I lived 1 mile from each other with only a digit difference in the zip. I would drop the envie at the local PO (inside a grocery 3 doors from my apt), it would then be taken to a PO 5 miles away to be sent to a processing center by the airport 27 miles away to be processed and sent to a PO 2 blocks from SIS apt to wait to be delivered on the next mail run. The elapsed time for envie, door to door, was 4-5 days.
So hopefully that will make the wait seem a little better even if we all want it there yesterday. :D ~C8>

Good job! Glomom23, but i don't think you need to be concerned about it. I think it's kind of like a barbecue, a coal thing. One is invited to a BBQ for dinner at 6. But, the coals aren't going to be ready till 7 at the earliest, and even then the chicken always takes longer than it should... We all know that, but we figure it's a good time to chat with the other guests and eat veggies and dip. It's just what happens. :) It'll be great when ever they get here!

No, just enjoying the warm, summery image you gave knowing that your are having too much snow in reality. It was a nice reminder that some things are worth waiting for. isn't the whole point in playing in these swaps to let us relax and enjoy our selves in a leisurely manner. art isn't supposed to be stressful.
But to answer the food question, my family's recipe for potato salad is excellent, but i never get to bring that, so i don't know who brought it?

Marinated cabbage salad sounds good! Unless you are really talking about some sort of pink saurkraut or Kimchi, :) i'm not sure how to think about that. I am told to bring my lasagna or my cherry cream cheese brownies, more backlash and sad leftover humor from the pasta turkey i'm afraid. Left to my self i'd bring tabouleh (not shaped like anything:noway: ) but there's not much interest in wheat salad these days. what did you do to/with deviled eggs to be banned from them?
What foods do all of you make for picnics?
The snow has stopped, there's alot of ice because of the freezing and then thawing and then refreezing but it manageable now. and tomorrow will be reasonably warm- above freezing!
I can't hardly wait for Spring! I want to see green growning things.

I can cook just about anything but friends & family have banned me from deviled eggs because when I make them, they are too zippy.
What foods do all of you make for picnics? I bring the marinated red cabbage salad since it is a salad that has a dressing that won't make you ill without refrigeration. It can be served cold or room temp and no one gets ill unless they eat toooooooo much, which is easy to do once you have tried it. Yummy stuff, easy recipe & made night before event.
The snow has stopped, there's alot of ice because of the freezing and then thawing and then refreezing but it manageable now. and tomorrow will be reasonably warm- above freezing! Yeah!!
I can't hardly wait for Spring! I want to see green growning things.

It does help. The only thing growing around here is the mud on my kitchen floor. There's no point in doing more than wiping up the puddles, there will inevitably be more dirt and salt and debris tracked in.....until like May! Soon there'll be enough to grow bulbs, anenomes and maybe even silk in here.....
But outside it's all grey, brown, or a very unappealling combination of both. I can understand very well why red would be the color of choice for this holiday (out side of the heart/blood aspect) We all want color, and warm. The combination of the two has had an impact. People have begun wearing the most strange outfits. The random layers have infected (even taken over) the everyday dress code. I delivered a gift basket on my way home from work and the woman opened the door wearing a bathrobe over her sweats (that's normal enough when it's this cold) and  a knitted face mask and socks over her shoes! I was scared. She invited me in but i wouldn't have gone in there even for money. We all start layering what ever seems warm and big enough to go over the unders without regard to any idea of fashion or 'granimals' coordination; but a face mask is plainly past what's needed to be warm.....It's just TOOO.....
anyway, i need to start getting in to my-walk-and-wait-for-a-bus clothes. i'm going to try wearing my foil hat under my baseball cap. The duck tape did wonders for my shoes and galoshies so i think the foil will help my ears stay warm!

!! What a marvelous idea!:lovie: except for the dryer lint part. don't have a washer or dryer, and using other people's lint would be silly. But what do you think about cat hair as a lining? I have LOTS of that and the stickie would just pick it up off the cushions!! OOh thank you Inky! I like this idea so much i may just have to make lots to share with my friends.....what's your hat size?
The mud and the wet is the pitts, i agree Karen. The weather guy said that of the last 35 days we've had some kind of precipatation during 30 of them. Do you need a hat?

I'm not sure duck tape is the right thing for you..... If you wear a "pin head" size Inky wouldn't a cupcake liner work? or maybe a bandaid? I think duck tape would just ball up and become more of a decoration than an actual functional headcovering.
alsmouse, i had no idea rats produced enough fuzz to line a hat?....my rats were somewhat protective of thiers and used it to line thier nests. Does Tucker have some special nest liner: eider down perhaps, rose petals or satin wove silk?

Tucker seems to be my most fuzzy rat. He has really long guard hairs & drops them alot. When I cleaned his cage today I must have cleaned up 2Tbs of them, compacted & that's a weeks worth! now do an estimate of the ones behind the computer moniter, inside the recliner & dropped on my clothes & if he didn't regrow them at an amazing rate he would be a naked mole rat instead.  (see link to get idea of just how not cute he would be; http://www.oregonzoo.org/Cards/Savanna/nakedmolerat.htm)
As for his bedding, even though he lives in such a wonderful home (described in a previous thread) he is still keeping his feet on the gound and likes the simple things in life. He prefers all cotton recycled tee shirts, washed in organic laundry soap to protect the environment. He is a socially consious rat. ~C8>

Paul,
When I host swaps, I usually include some type of token to all the players. You will NOT find very many hosts that do this. The French stuff was not a part of this swap, so just because it was folded you don't need to be disappointed. Put a towel over it and gently iron it on a low setting. Good to go!

I jumped at the opportunity to post since I used Copic markers for the first time on this ATC. It's hard to see in the picture but the glimmer/shimmer from the paper actually comes through the markers. Sometimes my dye marker coloring or even watercoloring gets muddy - 'cause I need more practice in all my coloring techniques. But, the 'muddies' don't seem to be happening to me with these markers as I keep experimenting. It's easy to 'over' color though - you can see some of that in the Valentine princess card - but most little girls just want to see red or pink so I didn't take out or blend/mute the color as I would for a different audience.

I'm hoping Amy finds a few minutes (more like hours ) to switch out all the non-Inky projects to the maker's own galleries. Every member has one, but not everybody can post their projects, yet. I don't mind posting for others who can't. I just think each artist here would get the kudos due them if their projects were listed under their own name, not mine. In the mean time, I'll keep posting swaps for those who need it & if need be, I'll start dropping the oldest projects first. I can always add them back in later, as I save all my edited scans. :D

If I send you everything so far, you can choose which projects you want posted in your gallery. Posting is easy once you set up a file (either on your desktop or in your 'documents' file) for photos & scans. The RSC server can be directed there when you click 'browse' then just click the name of the project you want & click 'open'. The computer & server should automatically pop a copy from your computer to the upload page at RSC. Then you just type in a title & any info you wish to add as well as choose what area(s) of the gallery you want your project in. i.e. member gallery or swaps or both? Then click 'upload'. The 2nd upload screen is for double checking things like 'show photo?'. You want that! Click 'upload' again & you'll have one photo up! While you can pre-load a bunch of photos before the final click, any info you type in on the first page will get switched to the info for the last photo loaded on the 2nd page, so I recommend you fully upload one photo at a time.
I'll go send you your photos now so you can play! :D

Way to go, Cindy!!! Uploading here really easier than folks think. Don't worry about the 75 dpi. My scanner utility software is the same way, it won't let me enter 72. Kept telling me that was an invalid number. :noway: Anywho, as long as you can get your dpi under 100 (the lower the better) the system should except your files. Don't try for below 50 dpi or your pix will be too blurry to be useful. :D
