View Full Version : New Image Hosting for Threads!

I added a new feature so you can post images in threads like this:
http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/3162/dorabledvr2fj2.jpg
It's in both the Post New Thread and Reply to Thread. When you are creating your post, if you scroll down you will see Addtional Options. There you will find an ImageShack link. Click on Browse which will take you to your computer. Find your picture and click open. You will now be taken to ImageShack in another window. This part may take a couple of minutes while your picture is getting uploaded to ImageShack. Once it's done, you will see all different code options. Click on the last one at the bottom (link for website) and copy that code. You're now done with ImageShack so you can close that window. Back in the thread, click the Insert Image icon at the top (looks like a little postcard). Paste your code in the box that pops up and click ok. You now have a picture in your post!
Any problems or questions just let me know. There may be issues with some browsers like IE and AOL but I have AOL and it works just fine for me.

I have a 9 week old kitten and he's sitting on my lap. He saw those cats on the screen and stood at attention and was ready to climb on the keyboard

So funny!!!!

Here's your pic...absolutely adorable! Looks like you clicked on the hyperlink icon (little world) instead of the insert image (little postcard). I used the last line of code on your page which is "direct link to image" and pasted that in the box that came up after clicking on the insert image icon.

You can also use your Gallery space for photos too but then your taking up your alloted disc space. Just upload your photo in the gallery, right click on the full sized image (not the thumbnail) and copy the code. Now start a thread or reply to one and click on the insert image icon and paste the code in. Now it's in your post:

 I tried to post an image and it wouldn't work for me. I tried several times and waited 10 minutes or more each time. Basically got a time out error message. or it just simply froze up half way through. I have a new computer and High speed internet so 10 minutes is a long time.

It worked. I'm not sure if I did it correctly, but as long as it worked, I guess that's all that matters.

Oh, I did do it wrong. I went back and re-read Amy's post, and I just copied the code from ImageShack and posted it into my reply. But it worked.

I just posted a couple of pictures in a post and I think I used the wrong code. Is there a way to find them and change to the correct type of link?

I see you got pictures up! I think you picked the "image for blog or forum" one. If you pick the very last code option you will get a full picture like Becky did.

Nancyt, I LOVE your Siamese kitten's white socks!!!
This is Fiver, the 12lb. runt of our litter born in 2003. He may be all black on the outside, but he's all Siamese on the inside. Fiver is my "special needs" kitty as he's never quite grasped the concept of personal space. <LOL> If someone human or feline is doing something that might be even vaguely interesting, there's Fiver wanting to be part of the fun. He used to love napping on top of my computer monitor with at least one paw or a paw & a tail hanging down. I don't know how many emails I typed one handed while holding a furry appendage out of the way. He was not a happy kitty when I got a flat screen upgrade.
Fiver is the cat who got a piece of glitter glued scrap paper stuck to his butt when he jumped onto my table and sat down in the middle of my stamping area. (See "Free or almost Free Movies..." under the Entertainment heading for the rest of that story.)

O.K. Maybe I'll stick to thumbnails in the future. I didn't know that photo was life sized! :)) :)) :)) :)) :))
And yes Amy, you can shrink it or remove my photp if my allowed space has been sucked up by this!

Inky, I wish you ahd warned us that Fiver's photo was life size. I opened it with Tucker on the key board & he jumped & skittered behind the moniter. At least the area behind the moniter got dusted LOL

<LOL> Poor lil rat man! He should be very glad it was just a picture and not the real thing, as some of my furry kids are serious hunters. Not that I would let them hurt someone's pet, mind you. They're just rather good at using what nature gave them.
Fiver used to clean the top of my monitor for me, but alas I must use a duster these days.

Jenna,
Fiver is beautiful. Was that him as a kitten that I saw on the bulletin board?
I just drug Taz away from the back of my computer. He can't sit on my monitor because it is a flat screen, but he sure can get behind it. He has tripled his weight in the last 2 1/2 months and is now 6 1/2 lbs at 4 months.:lovie:
Pets are so fun and they sure have a personality of their own. There is no doubt he is siamese. We had a friend who had a pure black cat and he was considered a siamese. Does Fiver also have the meow along with the attitude?

Why Thank You, Nancy! But I can't take the credit for Fivers looks beyond keeping him well fed. <LOL>
The kitten in the other picture is Fiver's big brother, Cesar, who went to live with one of my best friends. He's a wonkin' 13+ lbs now and the head of his own hareem. My friend also has 3 females, but all four are fixed. This doesn't stop him from acting the King with the girls tho'. :))
Taz sounds like he's well on his way to being a large sofa cushion like our Ziggy. At just about 14 lbs and lazy with it, he spends most of his time snoozing unless food is being offered.
Thankfully, Fiver is just chatty & not Siamese whiny. His mom (Luna) has the most musical cat voice. Everything she says sounds like she's trilling. When she was in heat she sounded like a very happy tribble. :D Cesar is the one with the Siamese voice, but he's on the quiet side so it isn't so bad.

What are you trying to put up? I see you have a flickr account so you can just use that....it may be easier for you. Upload the image to flickr, right click on the image and copy the Location. Then come here and click on the Insert Image icon (little postcard) and paste the image location in the box. I did it for your ATC below.

Thanks for that idea Amy. I really did not have a specific photo to put up, at least not right now. I have been trying to figure it out for sometime, but was not having any luck, so I finally posted my question.
The picture I was experimenting with one of my doxies, since people were posting pics of there pets at one time!
I'll put my picture on flickr then try out your idea, and let's see if it works out for me!

Amy,
sorry for my ignorance, but I am still having trouble with this. my question now is how do I copy the location? I right click on my flickr photo, and what option on the drop down menu do I click on next?
XrayAmy
03-16-2008, 12:17 AM
Susi, make sure that when you right click on your picture that you copy and paste the location and not the address.

I have chosen my photo. What do I do next? Do I have to open the "Host It" box underneath?

Yes....click on Host it and that uploads the photo on Imageshack.

Sorry to be a P A I N! But I have to take Baby Steps with this new technology.
Next Question: What exactly do I copy out of the box "Hotlink to website"?
"Cringe"!

Scroll down to the very bottom of the page and copy the Direct Link for Image. Then come back here, click on the Insert Image icon (little postcard) and paste that address there.

Good job, Fliss!!! :applause:
The first time I added a picture to a post, the photo came out so big the screen had to adjust to fit the image. When alsmouse when to that page the image of one of my cat's was lifesized and scared lil Tucker right off the table. :))

Nope, nada, zilch, I think I'll stop trying...

You don't need to post an attachment you are inserting an image. I'll be upgrading the forum software within the next few weeks and the new software has it's own image uploader built right in. No more ImageShack!

As a cat lover who has lived with numerous kitties over the years (although do not currently do so) and the mother of a DD who is owned by 8 cats, I have to say I LOVE all the photos. Thanks for posting they made me smile. :D
I also liked the other photos as well and look forward to seeing more of them.
