Since it is now early October & I hadn't seen a call for a monthly swap, did I miss it? Or am I the first to send out the call? If so, what theme? Or do we go with the obvious of Halloween? Maybe something Autumn? For the more fun loving, Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead)?
Other events noted in October:
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Adopt a Shelter Dog Month
Child Health Month
Cookbook Month
Country Music Month
Crime Prevention Month
Dental Hygiene Month
Domestic Violence Awareness Month

I've joined the Halloween ATC swap but that sure won't use up all my Halloween stamps, so I'm up for doing a card swap as long as it's 1:1 or 2:2. I hadn't done swaps before and I do enjoy getting swaps from you folks - brightens up my day.

Doesn't mean the swap has to be Halloween - I'm wishing I had a stamp with a horrified face with the words - the holidays are coming, the holidays are coming - or some such. My sisters are entertaining thoughts of all of us converging someplace in Maine for Christmas. Seems like more hauling of stuff and people to me; I usually look forward to being able to collapse in a familiar setting.

Autumn comforts? ? ? Colorful leaves, blue skies, apples, candied apples at harvest fairs, apple pie, applesauce, hot mulled cider, mulled wine, cider donuts, yum, yum. Got on a food dream here!:))

I'm thinking 1:1 or 2:2 depending on how many decide to join.

My sisters are entertaining thoughts of all of us converging someplace in Maine for Christmas. Seems like more hauling of stuff and people to me; I usually look forward to being able to collapse in a familiar setting. Sorry your family is entertaining such a thought. We end up doing a small trip to sis's M-I-L house only 30 miles away but it ends up being a huge deal with 4 people having to drive 60+ miles & 3 driving 30+ just so 1 person dosen't have to drive. My bro-I-L has to smoke both Her turkey for the Eve and their roast beast for the Day which means he is grumpy. Plus we have to haul all the presents for that family down there and haul it all back. And if we are "lucky" the grandbabies will be down & we have to put up with 2 kids who have NEVER had the word NO said to them. The boys are 8 & 6, doing all the boy stuff in a house that is full of glass knick knacks. Sounds fun, huh? I hope your sisters come to their senses & try something a little less adventureous.

Autumn comforts? ? ? Colorful leaves, blue skies, apples, candied apples at harvest fairs, apple pie, applesauce, hot mulled cider, mulled wine, cider donuts, yum, yum. Got on a food dream here!:))

AHHHH, hot spiced cider, cider doughnuts, pecan pie, Native style alder smoked salmon, harvest festival & that lovely snap in the air. ~C8>

I'd be happy to make a card(s) for an October swap. Count me in, please.
It's the sky that i look forward to in Autumn. It's a color of blue that it never turns in anyother season. Softer than Summer, more clear than Spring, but not yet the hard sharpness of Winter. I like seeing so much farther into the world, in spring and summer the trees and flowers cover so much. I agree about the air, alsmouse-apple weather. Cool, wet, and fruity rich, fragrant!

And the best thing about Fall, jacket pockets! So much more convenient than a purse.

What's a cider donut?

The color blue is hard to describe. Like trying to describe that salmon pink/rosy color Maxfield Parrish used in his works. I can't give it a name that is right but we all know it.And the best thing about Fall, jacket pockets! So much more convenient than a purse.

What's cider donut? It is a doughnut that is made using apple cider and cinnamon in the dough. They are a cake style doughnut and are super. There is a little organic farm nearby that makes them year round. It is such a treat to go get a bag of a dozen and scarf down at least half in a sitting. Yes, scarf them down. They are not too sweet and have a lovely spicing that is nice with herb tea or hot cider. They aren't big, about the size of a mini bagel so it is easy to nibble them. The only problem is that if you don't eat them in a day they get hard enough to hold a door back, they must be put in a air tight storage container to avoid that or your tummy. :) :eyeroll: Hhhummm, maybe a doughnut run?

Yes, you will have a new host for this swap. I chatted with Taniwolf and her social calender is filled. I offered to host the swaps until her calender is calmer. So, since I'm new to hosting, please be patient if I make any goofs or social faux pas while doing this. All reasonable suggestions will be taken under advisement.
At this point, we are deciding on Halloween or Autumn. There are four people signed up and we are requesting more. ~C8>

Don't know about mini-bagel size; ours are about the size of a regular cake donut. The shop I'm thinking about makes them all day, so when you get them they are warm. A couple of those, scarfed down with mulled cider and I'm good - almost think I could tackle Mt. Washington - not really, but it's the thought that counts, especially when you can see it through the trees with the nice autumn sky! The tease is whether it's the summit or snow on the summit on top of the mountain.

j3annin3
10-04-2007, 06:59 PM
a cider donut sounded good, but a warm cider donut sounds like a real scarfffing adventure! Do you have mountain tackling urges often peicesandpom? Are they a side effect of cider donuts? Alsmouse, do you feel a need to yodel?

I would not imply such a thing. I've not ventured to hosting before and am concerned that I may make some false/mis-steps on my first venture.

Inky Whiskers--"I think we're all very patient when it comes to swaps, even those of us with wait problems."
I think all of us are patient not only with swaps but with ink drying so it fits us all.:) As for the wait, wellllll, I can say that Tucker has a soft playground to run & jump on.:)) :))

Inky Whiskers--"And Jeff deserved all 20 of them for "pun"ishing us first thing in the am!"
I have a feeling that being a caretaker is starting to effect Jeff's mind. This morning was a sign of his mind starting to melt. Hey, Jeff, head down to Pike's market & grab one of those lovely cheesecakes you love so much & take a sanity break. I think you need it. P.S. Save me a bite.~C8>

No, I don't hike mountains. Wish I did; they are so gorgeous. I badly sprained both ankles by the time I was 17 - let me tell you about the hike that ended with boyfriend carrying me down the mountain. . . Good thing he was 6' 3" and built and I only weighed 118 pounds (5' 8") soaking wet!

Mountains are gorgeous! Snow capped pinnacles and sweeping slops! It's a pleasure that you can look and see them even if you can't climb them. Ours, PA's, are not really tall or imposing peaks but they're guite grand in thier own rounded and rising way. You could probably walk up the Alleghenys with out troubling your ankles too badly. I have unreliable knees and still can manage most trails. If you are ever in the range i hope you'll be able to see them (or see them agian). Fall is a good time. Right now, the leaves are just changing and it's really beautiful. The trees cover the hills like feathers on a bird, overlaping layers and very subtle 'patterns'. Even when the leaves have all fallen away, the many many browns and greys of the bare trees and leaf mounds are as calming as looking at the ocean. Makes a person feel that life is good! What do your mountains look like?

piecesandpom
10-06-2007, 11:16 PM
Mine are the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Hubby is from Wolfeville Nova Scotia, near a mountain, too. We live near some of the smaller southern NH mountains and aren't far from some of the smaller Mass mountains. There aren't any other mountains until you get out to the Berkshires.

What I do miss because the trees have grown so much is the view of the mountains from the 'foot of the lake' in Silver Lake/Madison, NH, near North Conway, a bargain shopping mecca. The lake is so deep in spots that they couldn't get accurate depth readings until after WWII. They needed sonar. It was also the summer place for e e cummings; my grandmother used to regularly chat with his wife, Marion. They shared the same first name and she was the postmistress. Interesting histories in these small towns that were known for their summer guests or winter skiing. . .

This is a great swap to join. The theme choices both can provide lots of chances to show your creative side. The group love seeing each others work and we all get so excited waiting to see what each other gets. I know that many of our postal carriers think we are stalking them at the last part of the month just becase we get so excited waiting to see what is in our mail each month. So come on, join the postal stalkers and see what goodies you can get in your box. Every one of us has received lovely goodies. Just check out the swap gallery to see them all.
The swap listing will close on Wednesday the 10th. I would also like to have a vote by then of your choice for the theme. The two options are Halloween or Autumn.
The mailing date for the finished cards will be on the 25th which would allow 15 planning, shopping, playing, executing, fine tuning, perfecting days before they need to be handed over to the hands of the postal service.
At this point I have the following listed as playing:

Autumn or Halloween, either would be good, i do slightly prefer Autumn over Halloween, but mostly because i have so many wonderful leaf stamps!

I haven't ever done a card swap either. I have some questions of the silly kind alsmouse. Feel free to point and chortle while you answer :D

Is there a certain size the card needs to be?
Is a blank on the inside card acceptable or is some related text expected?
Is the card to be sent as a card from me to whomever, or is the card to be sent for that person to use?
Do you mean that the cards must be at the recipients' address by the 25th or that the card needs to be postmarked by then?
I think that's all of them for now, all of them relating to a card swap anyway.

Okay, i'll just point at myself and snicker,

Inky Whiskers

A question is never "dumb" (nor is the asker) if you don't know the answer. Sometimes one may miss posted info, but the only sure way to learn anything is to ASK!!! :D

Besides, all your listed questions are quite valid as we all usually just assume what we've done is fine. :D

NO Giggles here!! I did the same thing on my first swap so don't feel silly or any thing. We're all "virgins" sometime. These are all legitimate questions & help to make the swaps a little easier to do.
Is there a certain size the card needs to be?
At least 4.5" x 5.5" (USPS). You can make it bigger if you wish but that is a good basic size. Shapes are OK too. What ever fits the swap and is within the guidelines of the postal requirements. If you want to go smaller, just make sure it is in an envelope that will go through the mail OK with the correct postage.
Is a blank on the inside card acceptable or is some related text expected? This is up to you.
Is the card to be sent as a card from me to whomever, or is the card to be sent for that person to use? From you to them.
Do you mean that the cards must be at the recipients' address by the 25th or that the card needs to be postmarked by then? Postmarked, com'on, you really think that I'll have you stress trying to get it there by then? We all have to deal with the postal system & some of us have more than one postal system to battle.
I think that's all of them for now, all of them relating to a card swap anyway.
One think I will ask all of you playing to do is, please make sure that either, that your address is updated on your profile or contact your swap partner/s with your address when you know who they are. It is a bummer to make a card, send it out & have it returned with a no known address label on it. Thank you. ~C8>

One more thing for the Swap Guidelines.
On the back of your card, would you please put the name/number/vendor of the stamps you used, if you know them. And if you want to be a real sweetie, also add the products & techniques you used.
I know I have found some stamps on my swaps that have HAD to be added to my collection, and each time I have had to contact the artist. Sometimes you may not know or don't want to part with your source, for that just put DK. That way no noses will be bent. ~C8>

OOHHH scary, a halloween card going "postal" :)) :)) (ok, bad pun, 20 lashes with a bone folder for me) That's OK Spidey. Maybe the swapee/receiver will be willing to scan it for the gallery. You are not the only one who has been having chats with the big fuzzy guy about getting a skanner. BIL keeps saying that if I can't unload my digital camera then how come I think I can scan.~C8>

It's little details right? The brain is so full of ideas and wheels spinning who has time to worry about pushing buttons and conversations with computer/printer right? sigh....so frustrating as it worked so well for me before until someone  messed with it and it was not me!:confusion:
Well that's my story and I'm sticken to it...lol

You've got it! :)) I am so bad I went in search of my digital and had to find the manual to figure out how to turn it on and check the battery. You may not want to borrow any of my stories because truth is stranger than fiction and I am full of......er....truth? As we speak my camera is docked and I hope recharging as the little green light is on saying so...

The card is in various stages of dry - hopefully I can get it finished and out in the mail tomorrow!

Pieces is stalking items on the table, however, so I hope she doesn't attack and create a mess. Tape, check, on the floor; paint brush, oops, mom, I don't know where it went. . .just about rolled under the hutch where no one finds it unless one is really, really looking; ah, ribbon, please take them out of the baggy so I can really play with them; now, where are those brads and eyelets I like pushing around. . .

Tucker was helping me too. I don't know why but our "kids" always seem to know when there is a dead line & want to give us that 'extra' help. He was relocated back to his cage with a chestnut to keep him from pouting. Too bad you can't do that with your "kids", fuzzy & other. ~C8>

I wasn't sure the postage was enough.

I have a scanner, but the software won't let me move the scanned image anywhere, or do anything to it. I think my software is corrupted or maybe i'm missing a driver, something anyway; i didn't even try to scan it....i'm not sure how it would do either. If you have time, i'd appreciate it if you would scan it for me, but it's okay if you don't have time or it looks too strange to post.

We have a section for swaps in the gallery just be sure to put the makers mane in the title bar ie... "Oct card swap by Alsmouse" or something similar.

Please post J3annin3's card, you have our curiosity piqued
Yep I'll get that pic uploaded of the card I got from 3annin3 but me and my temperamental camera will have to fight it out first, its a tunnel card and a scan won't do.

Yes, I should be sleeping. No, I can't. I still have to figure out how to get 700 more items up in the 'mama' system by start of business Monday. No, I'm not doing it today - brain was on complete work overload.

Spideycindy, your card is absolutely terrific! Do I need to attempt to take pics or does this mean you can post yours? Yes, you read correctly, pics - this card has several pages, all marvelous. My card and ATC are before it if I need to take pictures so folks may need to wait a bit. . .

I need to put mine in because alsmouse can't, correct alsmouse? And, my card went out this morning Priority Mail just 10 minutes before the post office closed.

Hum, sounds like I could do a big reveal on Wed night while waiting for our trick or treaters. . .I will not work West Coast time on Wed, will not, will not, will not.

Tonight is a big sports night - my fav NE Revolution soccer team is beginning their climb to try to get to the MLS cup AND the Red Sox are in Colorado for the World Series. Hubby and I are going to be fighting over control of the remote - we have to click back and forth until the soccer game is over! :))

I had to get the card to you before Halloween! My swap card and the ATCs are going to adorn my living room mantel while I wait for trick or treaters tomorrow night.

I'm probably a bit more obsessive than most since the po is NOT my grandmother's po. . .I used to be able to go with her to work and play with 'her stamps' on scratch paper. Sometimes if I went with her early I'd get to change the date stamper. . .

The stamp is from:

Good ATC's. I've enjoyed seeing them hanging from my clothes line. :)

I'm glad you liked it but, sorry to creep out your child. The hand is a color copy of the shopping bag from the science exhibit from bodyworlds. BBF & I went to see it & spent 3 hours in it. I bought a CD & the bag had the hands on it. On the bag they are translucent but when I took it to Kinkos, I did it on acetate, card stock & copy paper. I now have a file folder of bloody veined hands. If the exhibit gets to your area I do suggest going to see it. Very interesting. Amy, it may remind you of the exams you had to take for getting your tech license. I included the website info so you all could see how cool it is. http://www.bodyworlds.com/en.html
I made it at work & my boss liked it enough that I made him one similar but bloodier. He has a much darker sense of humor so I added a little more  to suit his style. ~C8>

Oh don't misunderstand, my 3-year old is thoroughly enjoying Halloween. She says ooo and comments that the hand is creepy. But it doesn't scare her away. We also have "spooky friends" out in the yard and she does/doesn't want to see them the same way. This year she's more brave and will approach them and say hi. Last year they were okay if propped up in the corner. But if we moved them, she had to know where they were or she got concerned that they were alone and unhappy. Strange kid.

I'm glad that it isn't too scary for her. It wasn't designed to scare just intrigue. I think checking to see that the spooky friends aren't lonely or unhappy is sweet. shows a concern for others. How is she with critters? Same? ~C8>

Vincentia
10-31-2007, 10:06 AM
With critters, yes, she is the same. When she is naming all the "people" in her family out loud, she includes the names of the dog and gerbil in her list -- even the other gerbil who died. She's quite a talker and I'm never quite sure what she's gonna say or where she comes up with her phrases. Her latest is "I don't mind" which she sure didn't pick up from me!
