Remind me again why I buy unmounteds. Can you tell it is the weekend after a convention and I've been trimming and mounting stamps onto cling, or should I say sticky, messy, get all over everything stuff.

In addition to the stamps I bought last weekend I have a bunch that had never been attached to cling because I had run out. I'm never going to get all these done  .

Will be worth it once its done and they are all in their CD cases, no more glue stick and then washing it off. But in the mean time, yuck! .

because you love a bargain, Who doesn't. I usually layout a whole sheet of UM on to foam then take it to work & cut them out between calls. But I must admit I'm really lucky in that my bosses don't mind us doing things between calls that can be dropped to take the call. I guess it keeps us from going thru the phone lines to shake really "confused" customers. LOL. You can always get the temp tacky sheets to adhere them to blocks until you can foam them all.

I don't use the cling foam...or any kind of foam on my unmounts....I just apply Aleene's Reposition It tacky glue on the backs of my unmounts...let it dry til clear, and I'm ready to stamp....works for me....I use a large foam pad as my stamping surface under my paper....no problems....hth...lol

I do my rubber trimming & HALOS mounting while watching TV or movies, so even if I have a large pile (like after a convention or one of LIWP Grab Bag sales :)) ) I can work on it a few hours a night until I get them all done. Of course I then spend another few hours stamping my new rubber babies into my index binder, but that is the fun part. :D

Why do we switch to ums from wood mounted?
1) UMs are less expensive than wood mounted, even with the cost of whatever um system one chooses added in.
2) UMs take up less storage room, thus allowing us to store MORE images in the space we have available.

A few years ago mounteds had filled my drawers & then some and I had to do something to make more room that didn't involve getting rid of stamps. :noway: So I went thru' my collection drawer by drawer and unmounted the majority of my wood & foam mounted images and re-did them with HALOS. I gained back almost half my stamp storage space! I've almost filled the drawers up again, but mostly with ums this time, so that's ok. When I get too full again (& I can guarantee that this will happen) I'll have to get creative and figure out how to add more drawers or whatever will work to fit all my rubber into my room. Maybe get a bigger house? :))

Life's too short to buy unmounteds... LOL I used to go to conventions and buy tons of unmounted rubber and it would just get thrown in a drawer and never mounted... occasionally, I'd go buy wood at the lumber yard, cut it with a miter saw, index the wood by shoving the wood against the inked up rubber, apply the cushion with rubber cement, etc., etc. and at the end of the day, I might have mounted a hundred stamps and hardly made a dent in the drawer and I began to realize I could have spent that time stamping... wood mounted stamps give me pleasure... I loved having the wood stamps all around me... granted I had a whole room for stamping and had to stamp on the kitchen counter as there wasn't any room left to stamp but I liked pulling out my frames of stamps and figuring out what would go with what... I'm talking about the 80's here, kids... I'm an old fogey and we didn't have such luxuries as acrylic blocks, static cling, etc. but I STILL love the look of wood mounted stamps...

I bought some of the Thomas Kinkade stamps so I can make notecards for
my aunt's Xmas present. I need the wooden block to make sure I get the
entire image by walking my fingers across it, especially in the middle. I am
also grateful for the amazing index on the block, but. . .the large ones take
up so much room! I could store four to six of them in the space of one.
Then I'd have room to store some of the larger images I've been getting
that I have no idea where/how to store at the moment. . .my dining room
table is a complete mess!

'Course I only have about six unfinished projects on it at the moment.:))

I bought several sheets of the extra long cling from MaryAnn last weekend and have cut out one full sheet, second one is filled up and a third of the way cut. And still have more in the basket to place on cling. I will say this stuff is way better than the stuff I used last time. It is much less sticky and even seems to cut easier.

I probably will never unmount anything on wood, they've worked for me this way for years, besides some of them are ireplaceable as the companies are out of business and wouldn't want to risk ruining them. I do love having stamps right there beside me in cd cases that I can flip through till I find what I need. I tried the notebooks and hated it, never used the um's. Too much hassle. Now I use them the most, funny how we all have ways that work for us and someone else does it totally differently.

Will have to look into where I can get some video cases cheap for some of my larger um's that won't fit a cd case. As well as anther package of cd cases.

I've had this site bookmarked for some time. It offers "hubless" video cassette holders for 58-cents each by the carton of 108 pcs..... I realize that's a lot of holders, but, maybe you could share the carton with other stamping friends.

The hubless part is nice because you can fit more into the case without interference.

Too bad the hub dosen't just pop out like cd cases. Thanks for the link, lol I only need a couple though. Maybe I could set up a table at the next convention and sell the rest of them.:))
