View Full Version : August swap Taniwolf 07-20-2007, 06:17 PM Early call for the Month of August swap. Who wants to play? We need a idea of what the card will be. Inky Whiskers 07-20-2007, 06:21 PM My schedule opens up a bit in August, so count me in! :D alsmouse 07-21-2007, 06:42 PM Count me in for the August swap. July was beach, how about mountians/forest? Is the Mystical swap a seperate one? Taniwolf 07-21-2007, 07:56 PM Yup mystic swap is different swap. i wan to see what everyone wants to swap to say what the swap will be. piecesandpom 07-22-2007, 06:25 AM Count me in! This is going to force me to make choices. . . restingrabbit 07-22-2007, 04:47 PM I loved the July swap so please include me in August! How about something along the theme of "Dog Days of August" which we always said to mother in the middle of August when it was hot, humid and we were bored out of our middle school minds. We could just use the saying as the theme and see how people go with it! Nancy joanofgos 07-22-2007, 10:37 PM Hi all, I love the idea of the "dog days." Especially, the dog part. Taniwolf, I plan to send my July swap on Monday night. :D So, sign me up for August. joanofgos ArtKar 07-23-2007, 03:14 PM Taniwolf, I would definintly be interested in a Dog Days theme! In all fairness, Iwill play in August no matter what theme is selected. . . . . .but I am voting with both hands raised for Dog Days. ArtKar CatStamper 07-23-2007, 05:14 PM I am in if the theme is Dog Days of Summer - great idea - if another theme will depend on whether I have the stamps/ideas for it! :) Kate Taniwolf 07-23-2007, 05:56 PM What the dog days intale? Lazy days, fun what? Inky Whiskers 07-23-2007, 06:27 PM I vote for the "Dog Days of Summer/August" theme too! :applause: For me it brings up images of dogs lazing about in the heat with their tongues hanging out, too hot & bored to do anything. I have an image (Stampo may recognize it :D ) that will be perfect for this theme. ArtKar 07-23-2007, 07:32 PM Hi Tania The Dog Days of Summer comes from that phrase "only mad dogs & Englishmen go out into the noonday sun." It refers to those days that are so oppressively hot & muggy that nobody wants to do anything. Kind of like here in Texas right now. ArtKar restingrabbit 07-23-2007, 07:52 PM Growing up in the Midwest, the "dog days of summer" were traditionally those days, usually in August, as the summer wound down and it was hot. The novelty of having the summer off was wearing a bit thin so it was possible to be bored (no computers back then, black and white TV and we didn't watch it during the day anyway). So when I think of those days, I think of how we kept cool (buckets of water with ice cubes, fans), running around with least amount of clothing allowed to stay cool, dressing the pets up for something to do, BBQ's, sitting on the porch when you could just feel the coolness of the evening creeping in, dragonflys and lightning bugs. It wasn't just the heat, more the longest days of the summer which could weigh on you and then the fun of kicking up the dirt and making some excitement. So for our theme we could use almost anything to describe this time during the summer. Think of it as your best August memory, the one thing that made you get up off the couch when it was really hot, what you saw when you laid on your back and looked at the clouds. No more hints! stampin stacy 07-23-2007, 10:18 PM For me it brings up images of dogs lazing about in the heat with their tongues hanging out, too hot & bored to do anything. You mean something like this: http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/1000/mistygg3.jpg Inky Whiskers 07-24-2007, 01:07 PM That's it!!! Between Stacy's photo & Resting Rabbit's eloquent description, I know have memories of lying in front of the fan (breaking a sweat just by breathing) waiting for "things" to cool down & actually wanting school to start, running thru' my head. :)) CatStamper 07-24-2007, 01:41 PM One of my puppy "stressing" on a lounge chair on the deck on a hot summer day seems appropriate too: http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/8913/loungestretchsm1996ic3.jpg restingrabbit 07-24-2007, 06:05 PM Look! It's BuzzLight Dog who got a buzz cut so he could tan out by his wading pool! http://files.dogster.com/pix/dogs/08/293408/293408_1181253596.jpg piecesandpom 07-24-2007, 06:46 PM Well, even though we have a pup I only have 1 dog stamp so getting to dog days is going to be quite a stretch, especially since it's a little itsy bitsy stamp. . .but I'll figure something out. Maybe I should do something like find the object in the scene? ? ? stampin stacy 07-24-2007, 10:18 PM Piecesandpom maybe you could do a dog days of summer heat shrunk the dog :D . stmpnswmn 07-25-2007, 05:45 AM Are newbies welcome to swap? I'm new here(not to stamping though) and I would like to do the August swap. :) alsmouse 07-25-2007, 09:34 AM come on in, the water's fine. We love newbies. & welcome to RSC. restingrabbit 07-25-2007, 03:36 PM Of course you are welcome! The card swaps are wonderful and really fire up your creative juices! :applause: Taniwolf 07-29-2007, 06:00 PM Hello all, Will close the sign up for the August swap on the 4th of August. Anyone else want to play? I will draw names and post results on the 5th. The theme is dog days of summer. Must have your card done and mailed by the 21st of the month. stampin stacy 07-29-2007, 10:37 PM Did I ever officially say put me down for this one, add me to the list. Taniwolf 07-30-2007, 05:26 PM Stacy you are in. Anyone else? I have a total of 11 people i need another to make a even swap. Still have until the 4th to sign up:) restingrabbit 08-01-2007, 09:03 AM I'm in, just in case I did not get on the list! michelle328 08-02-2007, 04:38 PM Me too, please...and I'll see if I can't maybe get to it faster than the very last day! LOL StamPoor 08-04-2007, 11:46 AM Would someone please explain the rules of the RSC swaps, please? Thanks. CatStamper 08-04-2007, 12:28 PM Would someone please explain the rules of the RSC swaps, please? Thanks. They vary, depending on who is hosting the swap and what is agreed upon. You have to check each swap thread for the details, usually. For this one, I'll go back and find the swap rules below and quote them in my next reply. Kate CatStamper 08-04-2007, 12:29 PM Hello all, Will close the sign up for the August swap on the 4th of August. Anyone else want to play? I will draw names and post results on the 5th. I guess I should have asked how many cards one needs to make for the swap. The swaps I've entered before have been something like send 10 cards to hostess who then divides the cards received and sends out packets of cards to all the entrants. This sounds different, like a one-on-one exchange perhaps since I see where Taniwolf has paired people up. Is that the case? michelle328 08-05-2007, 06:44 PM Hi, StamPoor I know what you mean; those kinds of swaps always kind of intimidated me. I did my very first swap ever last month andit was on this board. For this particular swap,it's just one...Taniwolf, who throws out the first thread isn't so much "hostess" as pairer-upper. We get an even number of people involved and she throws everyone's name in a hat then pulls 'em out and pairs 'em off. So, we don't send our cards to a hostess for sorting and sending on...we just make one card and send it to the person we're paired with. Kinda cool...and easy, huh? Hope this answers your questions Michelle stampin stacy 08-05-2007, 07:04 PM We discussed doing multiplies but voted to do one on ones for now. Since it is summer and everyone is so busy, plus with recent postage increases we just thought it would be easier for now. We all wanted to participate in some way but time and money were of concern for some as well. We are really glad you are interested and wanting to join in, the more the merrier. Jump right in and if you have any questions ask away. michelle328 08-06-2007, 06:29 AM Woohoo...ahead of the game for once...mine's going postal today! Inky Whiskers 08-06-2007, 05:08 PM Woohoo...ahead of the game for once...mine's going postal today! I haven't even started your card yet, Michelle! You be one zippy stamping lady. :D michelle328 08-06-2007, 05:50 PM Well, last month I didn't get it in the mail til the very last day. I was determined it wouldn't happen again! Hope you like it :) StamPoor 08-06-2007, 06:14 PM Many thanks to Michelle and Stamping Stacy for your clear explanation of the nature of swaps on Rubberstampchat. I love the idea of sending just one card directly to a "partner". Thanks for the encouragement. I'll watch for a new swap post. piecesandpom 08-06-2007, 07:35 PM Wow! I'm still designing in my head and one is in the mail already. . .just doesn't pay to have two days of birthdays in a row! restingrabbit 08-06-2007, 10:07 PM I am going to not rush StampinStacy her card. I am trying out some different designs to see what works best, so I am thinking it will leave this Friday for Texas. I feel like I am sending coals to Newcastle when I see what SS does with her cards!! But this is such a neat way to try new things and learn. One to one works really easily for me! stampin stacy 08-06-2007, 10:51 PM Resting Rabbit, I'm going on vacation next week so don't worry about it, take your time. Your last card was awesome. I'm still playing around with ideas myself, still trying to decide if I should go for the dog angle or the heat of summer. I have some new dog related phrases too that just have to get on there somewhere too. Hate it when your creative muse is sitting on the sideline taking a break while you squirm, I'm pretty sure she's over there sipping a cool drink and laughing. Hey muse we are going on vacation next week, not this week - get it in gear girl! alsmouse 08-06-2007, 11:10 PM Hate it when your creative muse is sitting on the sideline taking a break while you squirm, I'm pretty sure she's over there sipping a cool drink and laughing. Hey muse we are going on vacation next week, not this week - get it in gear girl! Should your muse be drinking & thinking?? That may cause a brain cramp. Though I've talked to some people, who thinking of their own name gives them a brain cramp.:)) Have a great vacation. Don't forget to write......~C8> restingrabbit 08-07-2007, 08:33 AM Oh dear, I don't think I can let my muse drink and create! I have a hard enough time keeping it within the bounds of good taste! I love the image though! My muse would have to have drinks with tiny little parasols though! ArtKar 08-08-2007, 12:57 PM I have a hard enough time keeping it within the bounds of good taste! Hold on there! Nobody said we had to keep in good taste. I may have to rethink this. . .:noway: Inky Whiskers 08-09-2007, 05:15 PM WOW! I got your "Dog Days" card today. You did an awesome coloring job and added spify embellishments! Would you like me to post it to the swap gallery for you? I got Michelle's great card in today's mail! Sould I now send my card to piecesandpom to keep the balance? Taniwolf 08-09-2007, 05:33 PM Sure that would be fine. Everyone makes a mistake once in awhile. She is speedy, i haven't even done mine yet lol Inky Whiskers 08-09-2007, 05:36 PM Works for me! I just didn't want anyone to get left out even if it was by oops. I have mine sort of planned in my head, but no ink on me yet. :) Thanks for the quick response! Inky Whiskers 08-09-2007, 05:53 PM Please forgive my ditziness! I occured to me after my last post that if I send to piecesandpom instead of Michelle, then Michelle won't get a card at all. So what I'll do is scan the card for posting then mail it to p&p since she was supposed to get it in the first place. I won't post it until I know p&p has received it. I'll send Michelle my card as scheduled. I'm slow, but I eventually figure things out. :)) michelle328 08-09-2007, 07:21 PM Well, so much for my being "johnny on the spot". Talk about your blonde moments! I can say that cuz I really am, but I don't usually have that sort of lapse. Duh! Tell ya what, Inky. Why don't you keep it and I'll just make another for piecesandpoms. I'm guessing from her screen name she'd like it ;) I read the dang thing backwards! Must have been a lysdexic sort of day; I do that sometimes *sigh* So, I guess speed isn't necessarily a good thing! Twas me that was ditzy, Jenna. Will that work for everyone? Inky Whiskers 08-09-2007, 07:42 PM I'm not blond, but I'm really good at pretending! I had to ask which comes first in the list (the sender or the receiver) on another recent swap as I couldn't remember either. We'll get the hang of this swapping thing eventually. :D I know pieceandpom will love your card design, I did! And I'm happy to keep the one you sent. Thank you! Now to go stamp my card to send to you. :D michelle328 08-10-2007, 05:45 AM Excellent...an unexpected RAK is always good...for both the sender and the receiver :) CatStamper 08-12-2007, 07:39 PM RestingRabbit - your card is going in the mail on Monday. Please allow extra time for it to get to you since it is coming from Canada (sometimes up to two weeks). Hope it gets to you before the dog days of summer are over! ;) Kate Cher 08-13-2007, 03:46 AM Sounds like fun. let me know about what the dog days are about,, see if i have the stamps for that. if so count me in i think card exchanges are great !! also let me know how yours works. thanky Cher Taniwolf 08-15-2007, 03:49 AM Cher, since this swap was already put together, I can send you a swap card and you can send one to me. Dog days are the hot sticky days that you just want to sit back and relax and have a drink. Just send me your addy so i can make and send a card. Make sure you look out for the next swap. Always looking for ideas on themes , for people holding. Cher 08-15-2007, 04:02 AM LoL. sorry about that guess i didn't read well.. Its okay you guys play, and don't forget to share. so i can look and see what every one has done ! But thanks for thinking about me . Inky Whiskers 08-15-2007, 01:50 PM You can always sign up for the next swap that comes along or even start one yourself. To be the manager of your own swap: Think of a theme/style/technique you'd like idea samples for or just go for whatever. Decide if you want to do a 1x1 swap (you send one card & get one back from the same person) or a 1x1 mixed swap (lots of folks sign up & we each send one card to somebody on the list, the names are drawn by the manager from a hat to see who sends to who) or a Set # swap (each participant sends the manager a set number of projects w/SASE and receives the same number of different projects back). I did a swap for 8 months where the manager wasn't contributing any projects, just organizing & mailing skills, and received one of each project as her "fee" for handling the details. (I sent in 20 of the same card front every month & got 19 different card fronts back.) I sure had a huge pile of sample cards by the time that swap ended! If you read thru' the various swap threads listed below this one in the swap/exchange folder, you can see how some of our earlier swaps have been done. Swapping is easy, fun & it's such a thrill to open your mail box and have something wonderful waiting for you! :D joanofgos 08-16-2007, 09:09 PM I received the hottest "cool" dog card with red and green peppers from Evie! I loved it. Beautifully done--with a sense of humor! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! What is the etiquette on this board? May I scan it in to share with everyone? joanofgos piecesandpom 08-16-2007, 10:01 PM Oh, I had goodies in the mailbox today! Michelle, your card is terrific! I managed to get two of three pix off the new camera so I'm hoping to be able to take a picture of your card to get it up in the gallery. I can't believe your coloring looks just like our 'pom.' I was shying away from that stamp but might have to purchase it now that he's getting into his more adult coat. Thanks! michelle328 08-17-2007, 06:19 AM My Rusty is just about that color too. When I saw that stamp it reminded me so much of him that I just had to have it. He's just got the greatest smile! I'm glad you like it and I was hoping that the "pom" in your screen name was referring to that :) ArtKar 08-17-2007, 06:38 PM Hi My exchange card(s) won't make it until just before the deadline. It's the Dog Days of Summer's fault. Sort of. I raise basenjis and still have 2 left from last season's litter, and they're at that uncontrollable stage (it's a basenji thing). Then I took custody of a foster basenji about the same age who is sick and has never had a bit of training in her 8 months. So. . .3 puppies, 5 adult dogs all going nuts. Can I send dogs through the mail?:exorcist: Karlene CatStamper 08-17-2007, 06:44 PM Hi My exchange card(s) won't make it until just before the deadline. We are currently raising a mixed breed pup (6 months old now) and are doing our best to train her but she is enough to keep our hands full. Sure is tempting to take a pup of your hands, but I think I'd better not. :noway: At least you have lots of inspiration for the theme! Hang in there! Kate EvieNC 08-18-2007, 03:50 PM Joan, I'm glad you asked about posting the cards. I have been wondering the same thing and wondering how and where we can see the cards that were sent in this swap. Is there a particular gallery where we should upload them or can we just insert our images into these replies? EvieNC Inky Whiskers 08-18-2007, 04:31 PM Swap & Exchanges have their own gallery! Click on "Gallery in dark bar above & scroll down to the swap gallery. Many of us put the name & date of the swap in the title so we know what the project is from as well as what stamps & supplies we used in the info box. If you're posting somebody else's project you can add their name to the title or info box so we know who made it if it wasn't you. Alas, not all RSC members have the equipment available to them to post their swaps & other projects. Those of us that can, upload the projects of those who can't when we get something for them or before we send out own projects out. Just make sure your phot/scan DPI is 100 or less so you don't fill up your server space. :D Inky Whiskers 08-18-2007, 04:35 PM Hey Michelle! I haven't forgotten you, I'm just not as on the ball as you are this month. I will have your Dog Days card in the mail Monday. (the deadline) I can upload your card if piecesand pom can't, if you did her card the same as the one I got by oops, that is. If hers is different, I'll gladly upload the one you sent me anyway. :D I'm slow these days, but I do get there in the end! :o piecesandpom 08-18-2007, 09:46 PM I can upload Michelle's card, no problem. I finally got the software for the digital camera and can upload cards. If darling daughter number 2 would get back from vacation so I can finish cards and take pictures, I'd be all set. The pom puppy is still requiring lots of attention - still working on 'hush' and 'no biting!' He gets out of control when it's a neighborhood dog or our two outdoor kitty cats. We should have read more about sheepherding dog instincts - he tries to 'nip' us into shape as well! My swap cards won't go out until Monday, unfortunately. . . michelle328 08-18-2007, 10:08 PM No problem at all, Jenna. LOL, you see what my being "on the ball" got me! Better it should take longer and get where it's supposed to go. Hehe, I'm still shaking my head at myself over that one. I'm glad you liked it though. I used the same stamp and general outline for the "right" one so they're pretty much the same card. I went to an RS/S'book expo yesterday and saw a stamp that would have been sooooo perfect for our theme this month....a cartoon dog with his tongue hanging out, sitting in front of a big fan. I think the other folks in the booth thought I was nuts cuz I was laughing so hard...kinda wish I'd had it for the swap, but I resisted...only that one...I came home with 12 others though...what fun! Inky Whiskers 08-18-2007, 11:27 PM I haven't had any convention fun for a few months, but between VLVS's Grab Bag sale & eBay, I think I'll have added a couple hundred new images to my collection by the end of the month. :)) Like I REALLY needed more stamps? Of course I do!!! I don't have them ALL yet. :p I just need to set up a second index binder now to keep track of them all. At least they're all UM's & should fit in my stamp drawers. I hope. Now to go get stamping so the SWAP police don't ticket me for failure to follow the rules by missing the deadline that I've know about for weeks. :noway: Taniwolf 08-19-2007, 03:10 PM Caught you... LOL Well if i arrest you and give you a ticket, i must ticket myself. I let time get away from me. I was getting ready for a model horse show and forgot about the card. I am really glad you like it. It's in the gallery now. Too bad your computer won't let you post to the gallery.
