The Paper Lantern Technique features one of the neglected tools in our stamping arsenal -- the paper crimper. This technique was created by my (former) Stampin' Up upline and friend, Jan Tinklenberg.

Simply:
- Stamp your image anyway you desire.
- Run the image through the paper crimper.
- Lightly pat the raised folds on a contrasting ink pad.

The waterlily stamp is from OnyxXpressions. The background is Krylon "Make It Stone" sprayed on black cardstock.

We'd love to see what you make using the Paper Lantern Technique.

I don't have the cards any more, but last year, I used this technique to make paper lanterns for a Chinese New Year's card but running card stock through the crimper and punching out circles.

This technique would be great for a Chinese New year's card! Thanks for commenting, Ingrid.

This ATC is for the Year of Rabbit swap. Don't look if you want to be surprised.
For variety, I only highlighted the ridges in some areas.

I have an idea for this, so I just need to carve out some stamping time after work tonight. :-) Crossing my fingers that this idea turns out the way I see it in my head. :-)

Here is a comparison of different color combos but with the same stamps and layout:

1) on grey paper, images in black and rubbed with white
2) on white paper, images in black and rubbed with a brownish red ink
3) on white paper, images in colored inks and rubbed with black ink

Great samples, Stacy. Which do you like best?

I used the Paper Lantern technique for the mini blinds in the window. It's hard to see, but I used Old Paper distress ink on the "mountains" of the mini blinds. This is a special sneak peek of a new Humorous Senior stamp coming soon from I Brake for Stamps (http://ibrakeforstamps.com).

I'm not sure, they are all three different. The grey with white was hard because as we all know it is really hard to get white to show up. I used a pigment ink, then dye ink and finally used watered down craft paint.

The trick for each is probably how and what you layer them up with. It is a fun and easy technique though, thanks for posting it Deb.

I had to try this again, and I combined it with the sketch challenge that is posted in the forums here. The silhouette flower is from I Brake for Stamps (http://ibrakeforstamps.com) and I used kraft, artichoke, and vanilla colors here. Fun technique - thanks, Deb!

I'm very interested in this technique. Easy is right up my alley!!!

It dawned on me that I'd used this technique unknowingly. I made holiday inchies last month using a crimper I found at a thrift store that embosses circles with a hole in the middle. I brushed the raised circles with ink. So, basically the same thing. It is a fun and easy technique. :D

Thanks for sharing with us everyone!!!

You can find a paper crimper at Hobby Lobby or Michaels, probably at WalMart too. For planning purposes, Hobby Lobby has the 40% coupon every other week. I hope you can find one! I'd love to see what you make, Wolf.

I had a SHOCK yesterday. I received an artist complimentary copy of Take Ten. Here is my card featuring the Lantern Technique and the OnyxXpressions rabbit.
(I have received sooo many rejection letters from Take Ten/Stampington, so this was a huge surprise.)

Thanks! You all are so great and such encouragers.
I know that my style is not like most of the current art in the Stampington magazines these days, so I understand. It was a nice surprise.

Stamping trends change. When I page through TakeTen, it seems like the trend is to stamp on scrapbook paper, then collage it with other scrapbook papers. Also I notice a lot of clip art and steampunk.

Remember previous trends? I'm thinking about wings and hats -- everything had wings and/or hats on them at one time (cats, babies...)

I'm really glad people are still stamping! We certainly do all kinds of art with our stamps. I'm also glad we have Just Cards on the magazine stands, and of course, Vamp Stamp News too.
