 Could someone explain the craze to me and what makes this a "new" technique please. I have made a couple and don't see anything different or special. I have made ATC's and even stamped business card size card stock but inchies seem to be more trouble than they were worth. Plus most of the cards I've seen using them don't really seem all that different or new. Is this a reinvention of already used techniques. A lot of them look like mosaics to me once used.

Really not trying to be mean, I just truly don't get the it. :confusion:

I want to know what an "inchie" is.

I'm always up for new info, but like Stacy, occasionaly notice something old being touted as new in this industry. Is it because the person proclaiming the wonders of this "new" technique or product they've discovered doesn't know it's been done before? I can understand a "new twist" on an old favorite or even a "new & improved" approach (as with Quickie Mount), but just because someone figures something out all by their lonesome doesn't make it an original thought. Credit needs to be given where credit is due, please!

That said, I really can get behind something that truely is new or a major improvement over its predecessor. I just get tired of the hype when the object of said hype isn't worth the enthusiasm. :exorcist:

Maybe I should have posted this in the Rubber Room! :o

Hi Stacy... you the same Stampin Stacy on the See D's board? I first heard of INCHIES in the posts on that site.
I am new to stamping and cardmaking, so even thinking about doing INCHIES..boggles my mind. I trying to learn about ATC's and that might even be a stretch for me right now....lol.

I'm with Jenna....what are you all talking about?

Basically they are stamping, collage, etc taken to an even smaller size. I just did a google and found lots of links. I also found out the they are being done in fabric, although I didn't go into any of the websites to check it out. But when I see them used they look like stuff we've been doing all along.

Such as taking a larger image and cutting it up into smaller squares, this time 1 inch by 1 inch, that is called mosaic. Also taking a one inch image matting it and placing it on a card sometimes with foam tape and suddenly you have an inchie card. I though that was just framing out something small to give it presence on the card.

I still don't get what makes these different. I can see the challenge of something this small but do we really need to make and keep up with these by the thousand?

P S Yes thats me ReeRee....Fliss is here too:)

Here ya go:

The Woodhouse phenomenon
Britain is no stranger to dog psychology. In 1980, the fierce Barbara Woodhouse became a household name, at the age of 70, for the television programme Training Dogs the Woodhouse Way. Having trained more than 17,000 dogs and their owners, her philosophy was that there are no bad dogs, only owners who lacked experience. Wearing a woolly kilt and sensible shoes, her programme became popular as she used her forceful techniques to teach dogs obedience - her trademark "Walkies" and "Sit-t" swept the nation.
Her disciplinarian methods were criticised at the time, but her books are still on sale now, including No Bad Dogs: the Woodhouse Way.
Ms Woodhouse was born in 1910 and died in 1988, aged 78, of a stroke. She studied veterinary science at agricultural college and, in the 1930s, she worked as a horse whisperer on a ranch in Argentina.

Thanks for the edu on "inchies" & the re-edu on Ms Woodhouse. I remember "walksies" being lilted from the TV & each time I heard it my skin crawled from the sweetie tone. I kept waiting for the insulin overload to hit.
I remember doing something like inchies in the neolithic period when I was in kindergarten.:D And some one is saying it is a "new" technique???:eyeroll:

Inchies aren't really a new technique, but just a format (1 inch square obviously! haha). I don't really like the size/format myself, but some people really are going mad with it. I have seen some charm bracelets made with inchies and thought that was clever.

Even though I'll probably never make inchies, I do like to keep up with this site - a woman is trying to make 1000 inchies this year.

A lot of the stuff she does is kind of Anne Taintor style.

I have adjusted to making ATC's just fine... at first I was skeptical, because it seemed impossible to do something so small... but this "inchie" craze is all over two of my yahoogroups. Basically, you take a 1" square base and create your art on that. Yes, one inch square. Too small for me!!

There was even a big huge debate over the fact that many of the punches that claim they are 1" aren't really one inch! They are one inch diagonally, which is not one inch by one inch.

Not for me, thanks.

Thanks Amy. I learned something new today. Later on, when we take Riley for her walk I'll call it a "walkies" and see if she still wants to go. :))

Hehehehehehehehe!!!! No! Not the breakfast cereal:noway: That got you going, didn't it?

Anyway, the gauntlet was thrown down on See D's site regarding inchies, so I had a go, it's in my gallery! Should I remove it?....So it was something new to think about and try, but all I did at the end of the day was use 1 stamp and cut it down to 1" x 1", not very exciting I know, but I suppose we have to try these things out.

Now for the shreddies! This idea came to me via my stamp plate I was using at the time, in my gallery!, (Retrieved from the past).....Like most of us stampers, I studied the set prior to what to do with it, and decided to scissor cut the images stamped to make it look as though they were retrieved from a shredder, but I wouldn't for the life of me consider this a new invention to rubber stamping, afterall, as we all know, anything goes, but the basics to it all are already in place.

So I am delighted to say Ladies & Gents, keep stamping and do with it whatever floats your boat!

LOL...I've been to that site, and so I did a few just to see what all the fuss was about. Besides going blind and wishing I had my tweezers, I'll pass. Too small for me. Give me ATC's any day of the week!

Sort of on the same subject, can someone please explain the ATC craze to me???? :confusion: Is it just a special size of artwork, and then it isn't mounted onto a card, but just kept/traded/displayed as a stamped piece of a certain size, or is there more to it that I am missing? I have stamped things in the size of ATCs (I think), but I tend to mount the work on a card. If I stamped the same thing and didn't mount it on a card, does that make it an ATC??? I don't understand the big deal about the ATC size/format, but maybe I don't know enough about it???

ATCs are 2 1/2" x 3 1/2", the same size as a baseball trading card.

They are for giving and/or trading with other artists. They are NOT to be sold as that would violate the spirit of the process.

They are a great way to play with different techniques, stamps & mixed media. They're also great for swaps as they don't use as much card stock, supplies etc. & it doesn't cost much to mail a bunch of them.

I've seen articles on different ways folks use them & one of my favs is to creat a whole bunch and put one's contact info on the back then hand them out as business or calling cards. It's one way to know the folks won't be "misplacing" your info.

HTH :D

I thought I might give my two cents lol. I usually frequent another site maybe you've heard of it: www.papercraftsmag.com...well on there a lot of the ladies are amazed with Inchies and I personally don't get it. I love making cards and haven't gone full force with the ATC's..though I have made a few. I would rather more space to create than less and with the inchies they are very small. I honestly haven't tried them because I can't imagine making something so tiny and then decorating it...thats JMO. Hope I didn't offend anyone.

I love inchies. They make really cute cards. If you ever ruin a card you just finished, punch 1" squares out of the good parts that are left. Most likely, they'll look good arranged on a colored cardstock card.

Maybe the craze has to do with the fascination with the small - the flea circus, the painting of the mona lisa on the head of a pin, sea monkeys, etc.
