View Full Version : June Color Challenge Tag swap
Inky Whiskers

Howdy Ladies & Gents!
Sorry about the little delay in getting this sign up posted. Yesterday was cra-a-zy! :exorcist:
June's colors are: plum/marine blue/linen
Sign up so far includes:
Inky Whiskers
Marstamper
SpideyCindy
Alsmouse
Darci
Teena
Poohstamps
Pieces & Pom
Please sign up by posting to this thread by 6/9 & aim for 6/22 as a mailing date.
Here are the swap parameters:
~ You can use white, vanilla (ivory, ecru etc) & black as neutrals if needed.(these colors don't count as a color choice)
~ You are to choose a 4th color that you think goes well with the challenge colors.
~ The 'official' tag size is 4.25" x 2.75". (you should be getting 8 tags from one sheet of 8.5" x 11" cardstock, email me if you need the instructions for making a template)
~ The corners of the top of each tag are clipped at an angle. Measure in .5" from the corner in both directions & mark the spots. Cut from the mark on one side to the mark on the other side of that corner. Repeat for the other corner on the same short end of the tag.
~ The hole is placed in between the 2 clipped corners & .5" down from the top edge of the tag. The hole size is .25". You can buy a hand held hole punch in this (1/4 inch) size at just about any craft or office supply store for cheap. Please don't add any embellishment to the hole. The tags are much easier & cheaper to mail when the holes are left empty.
~ Mail the required number of tags in a padded 4" x 7" envie or a 6" x 9" envie. Please include an appropriate sized SASE or a return address tag and enough postage to get your padded envie back to you. (with the increase in postal fees the return envies averaged just under $1.50 in postage.)
~ The tag math works like this: you make one tag for your self + the number of tags needed to swap with the other players + 1 tag for X-ray Amy as a thank you giving us RSC +1 for our mystery swap member.
~ I'll announce the 'official' head count when the sign up closes on the 9th. So far we haven't had to make more than 16 tags in any given month.
~ There is no 'official' color chart for this challenge. Go with whatever color comes to mind. There is NO wrong answer on this! You can also use any brand of stamps, inks, paper & embellishments you desire, but please go easy on heavy embellishments as one really heavy set of tags can seriously throw off the weight of the SASE envies and require extra postage.
~ Please attach a list of what supplies from what companies (if you have the info) you used to the back of each tag. Don't forget to include your name! This lets all the players know who made the tag & what you used. Many of us also include this info when posting our tags to the gallery.
The question of whether a neutral counts as a color choice came up a little while back & I confered with our most wise & honorable color picking rat, his Highness Tucker (may he rest in the eternal peace of rat heaven). It was his distinction that neutrals are often a neccessity to facilitate the use of dye inks & other artistic mediums. As such, they don't count as the 4th color choice. If you're not using dye inks or transluscent paints on your tags, you don't need a neutral color of cardstock to stamp on. (Pigment & chalk inks are opaque as well as many paints, markers & gel pens.) Your 4th color choice is just that, a color you choose that goes with that month's challenge colors. The addition of a neutral should be based on what you choose to stamp &/or color your tags. If you always use a neutral to stamp on no matter what kind of ink you're using, here's your chance to do something different!
Tucker also reminded my inky little brain that this swap was created to get us out of our creativity ruts of picking the same favorite colors over & over by challenging us to use new colors & combinations of colors that we wouldn't normally think of using. We the players requested a new layer of challenge after the 1st year of working with just the listed challenge colors (plus a neutral as needed) & the addition of a 4th color of our individual choosing is the added challenge element for 2009. If you feel a brain cramp while thinking about this swap, you're doing it right. :eyeroll: Another creatively crucial element of this swap is the opportunity to try out new techniques! The tags are a reasonable size for trial & error as well as testing out new inks, stamps, embellishments & tools. Other than the size requirement for the sake of consistancy, there really isn't a wrong way to do this.
So let me know asap if you want in on the kewlest color swap to be found on the web!
P.S. My snail mail address is on my Member's page.

HEY! I know you are all really busy, but have you forgotten about how fun this swap is??? This month's colors are real easy to work with. Just think, plum, marine blue, linen plus the one extra color of your choice. What great colors!
Come on sign up, you know you want to do it. It's really easy to sign up and a lot of fun to make these tags.
And for those of you in this for the Tucker Tucks, Inky & I discussed it & we will continue to honor Tucker with the TT until the end of this year since he did pick our colors for this year. Hopefully by then I will have Dazi trained to pick the colors & we will switch over to Dazi Dazzlers.
So, Sign up already!

Question: Just checking - Do we still send our tags to Inky in June (I assume so from Inky's address comment, but tho't I better check)? Thanks! :D
Oh, fun! How nice to honor Tucker, and we can look forward to Dazi Dazzlers!!! :D

Yes, please send them on to Inky, I'm not ready to take the tags back yet. When I am I will give plenty of notice ot all involved, especially Ms Inky for being my right paw while I get my brain & heart settled.
We thought that since he did pick the colors he should still get to use the title of Tucker Tucks. Dazi, hopefully, will be ready to pick colors by then. So far she is a live wire. I forgot how active little ones are., no matter what breed.

Just becase Tucker is no longer with us does not mean that the TCC tags swap will stop. He pulled the colors for the year & we will keep going on.
I'm hoping by the end of the year that Dazi* will be ready to fill the artistic paw prints that Tucker left for her to fill & will be able to pick our colors for 2010. ~C8> & *~c8>

Those tags should be there by now Inky? Please let me know as I would freak out if I have to start over and rework more...This is the first time I sent a non padded envy inside a non padded envy and that made me nervous a bit but the thickness was there to protect it somewhat.

Don't worry, Cindy! Yours & Darci's tags arrived safe & sound on Monday. I've just been a tad bit swamped with a camp this Friday to get ready for & tons of yard work that needs to get done before the weeds take over, again. I've got you listed as paid for your catty too. I'm checking in here daily, I'm just not sitting in front of my 'puter for big chunks of the day like I do in the winter. :D

My 23ish is now a 27ish or even 28ish or 29ish because my Dad was rushed via ambulance to the hospital on the 22. He just got home today. I still live at home with him, so I have been working at work, going to hospital, and doing both my errands and his also this week. At one point, I had my cell phone on one ear, and the land phone on the other, not kidding...
He has previously had quadruple bypass heart surgery, and this time was admitted with chest pains and could not get his breath. They had to put oxygen on him, and add a couple of medicines to his medicine roster.
Today was filled with Dr. office, drug store, hospital, and grocery store...
So very sorry that these are late, but they will go postal by Monday at the MEGA latest...
Some things, my Dad included are more important than cardstock...
Thanks for understanding!

Mine are actually gonna hit the PO on FRIDAY...sigh....
I had a complete idiot moment on Monday night when the car door flew back and konked me on the head. I had been in Big Lots to get some of the Quickutz Storage units that are on sale here for $3, no kidding! I don't have Quickutz, but I sure need storage...lol.
They are the magpie storage units that normally sell for $29.99 and are 90% off at MY Big Lots. But the BL across town is only 70% off...so go figure....
Anyhow...I got a headache from that door bang, and last night I was so tired I fell asleep before 5 PM!!! Which is TOTALLY so not me!
And tonite I gotta zoom back to the grocery store, and tomorrow, I have errands by the dozen before I get home...(my cell phone company is getting bought out, and I need to check into the NEW one)...as I also need a new phone...and I wanna beat the rush!
So...that leaves FRIDAY morning to mail these...and that's how it is happening on my end...
Take care all...

A Great Big Thank You, to Inky for taking over while I dealt with my Mom's illness & death. Inky's help with the TCC tags made that time needed a lot less stressful. For walking into the swap part of the TCC tags cold, Inky did a great job of keeping the swap going smoothly.

HTH
As for the training with Dazi*, it is going slowly. She is more interested in running off to explore or tries to drag the swatchs into her hiddy spot to decorate with. I have peeked at ther hiddy spot & she is finding brights & prints to be her faves. I hope she can learn how to pick swatches by the end of the year or there may be some VERY intersesting challenges ahead. ~C8>
