Tucker has picked the colors for each month & I will be listing 3 months at a time so you can pre-shop/pre-plan for the tags.

The BIG NEW thing will be to add one other color of your choice to the mix. Since we have always considered black & white to be givens as part of the tags this means you will be picking something other than them to be used.

So using January’s colors as an example; I would use black, white, gray & “puce” on my tags. “Puce” would be my additional color choice. (puce would not be my color choice in real life since it is a icky color but I’m using it as an example color only) If you have any questions on this process, please ask. No question is ever stupid, only the un-asked question is stupid.
The other tag guidelines will remain the same.

January --- black/white/gray (14+2=16)

2 requests:
1) if you are having trouble making the deadline please PM me ahead of time to let me know. I certainly understand that life gets in the way sometimes, I just want to stay informed of whats going on and what to expect.

2) This thread is for the signing up for and discussion of the Color Challenge Tags only. Please help me keep this thread on topic so those that are participating can stay informed and up to date about the swap.

Tag Guidelines:
The tag size is 2 3/4" x 4 1/4" with the one end having the corners cut off at the .5" mark on the 90 degree point, a 1/4" hole punched in middle of cut end
Please, as long as we leave the tag holes undecorated with ribbons & stuff, they will be easy to mail back & forth.
As for cutting of the corners & making the hole so all our tags more or less match...I have a tip for the others: make a template for cutting the corners & punching the hole. For those who need it, if you PM me (alsmouse), I will send out a template & my address.
Also please type up a supply & techniques list, shrink it to a size that will easily fit the back of the tag fronts, copy the list to fill the sheet, cut the lists apart then stick them to the back.(Don't forget your name).
Once you have completed your color combination, just mail the required number of tags in either a padded 4" x 7" envie or a 6" x 9" envie. Plus an approprite sized envie SASE inside or a return address tag and enough postage to get it back to you, I'll make sure that we each get one tag of each others work. Don't forget to keep one for your self.

"Monkey Keeper asked: Is there a color chart we can refer to for some of the colors? Or are the color names specific so a brand of inkpad or marker? Or do we just make our best estimate of what a color is supposed to be?"

"Inky Whiskers replied-A perfectly reasonable question, but nope, we don't use a color chart or a specific brand of anything. This swap is all about stretching our creative muscles by using colors & combinations we might not normally choose to work with. Other than the required size of the tag & corner/hole specifics, you can do whatever comes to your muse & use whatever supplies you have or want to buy. (like any of us need more than the slightest of nudges to head for the LSS )

Some of us go with the first thing that comes to mind when we learn what the month's colors are & others wander around for a few days/weeks thinking about the colors & waiting for inspiration to strike. If you have to use at least one brain cell to come up with an idea for this, then you're doing it right. The point is to do something different, not go on stamping autopilot. This is also a great opportunity to experiment with new techniques & play with new or not often used stamps, inks, embellishments & papers. You should get 8 tags from one sheet of 8.5x11 card stock and so far, 2 sheets of card stock has been enough (w/left overs) to do each month's set of tags. Also, take notes as you go of what you use for stamps (w/company name), inks, papers & embellishments so you remember everything when you type up the supply list for the back of your tags. If you have room, include basic info about the technique. Many of us include this info with better directions when we upload to our galleries as well.
If you're really suck trying to visualize a particular color, try Googling it to see what others in the art world have come up with for that color. This is a very subjective process & there really aren't any 'wrong' answers. So go have some fun!!!"

Now go create something wonderful ~C8>

DUH!!! Sign me up for the whole year now! :D

BTW ~ I noticed that one year of tags only fills half the ring.

I'll put you down for the 3 months at a time only so if there is a change it can be altered. I'm keeping the rest of the info in a seperate folder so if there are any problems, I have it as a back up to this.

As for the ring, I am going to start a new ring so that I can easily flip the tags. Each player can decide if they want to continue on their current bookbinders ring or if they want to purchase a new one. For those of you who are wondering about finding the ring, we are talking about. It is a 3" bookbinders ring, available at a REAL stationery store. I have looked at the big box store but haven't seen one that size so far, you may have to ask. If you get really desperate, send me a PM & we will chat. ~C8>

Do you have any sort of count for Jan yet alsmouse? Don't know if hedging my bets with 16 is enough? ? ?

I've got a stamp/scrap afternoon coming up this weekend and would love to get them started. Love these 'cause we get to share each others goodies!

Tired of hitting the Stamping Autopilot button? Want a change in the new year? Join the Color Challenge Tag swap. It is a great way to try color combinations in a fun & safe environment. The guidelines are simple & it is a lot of fun. Plus you get a lovely collection of inspiration for your future creations that you may have never considered. Even if you just try something new as a one time thing, this swap will really inspire you to try a color combination that you might not have considered otherwise.

I’ll be closing the swap 01/06/09 with a mailing due date of 01/20/09. January’s colors will be black/ white/ gray and 1 other color you pick & add to those three colors. For the tag sizing & other information, please view the initial posting on this thread.
Come on, join us in this fun swap.

I must be insane, but I love tags, so please sign me up for a spot in each month. From what I read, the "color police" won't beat us to death if we use a color that WE think is specific, and yet someone else says, that's NOT sage or whatever, right? As long as we are in the ballpark?

Thanks...

Yep! This swap is all about exploring how YOU interpret colors & we learn from each other some of the many ways colors can be perceived & used. Other than the tag size/shape requirement, you can use any art supplies & techniques that allow you to express how you see that month's colors as well as any stamp images and embellishments, from any company, new or retired. Try to keep the heavy bulky embellishments down to help keep the postage reasonable for everybody since we get one of each player's tags & one heavy set can have everybody owing our hostess for the extra stamps needed. Remember to take notes as you create so you can include all the required info on the back. Most of us put that month's colors, the stamps including company name, the colors & brands of inks, paints etc used, colors & brands of cardstock/paper, any specific tools i.e. if something is cut out we don't list scissors, but if we used deco scissors, we would list what the name of the edge used is & what brand, and of course you should include your name & the date. If you don't remember who you bought something from, that's ok, just put 'unknown'. We're not submitting for publishing, just providing info so others know what we used for reference. Many of us also use our computers to type up, shrink to several per page & print these lists then we stick 'em to the back of each tag. Many of us also include this info when we upload our art to the galleries. If you can't upload due to lack of equipement or knowledge, just let us know as one of us will either walk you thru' the upload, email you a scan so you can do it yourself or upload for you to one of our galleries. (Uploading for others is why I have so many projects not made by me in my gallery.) Show & tell after everybody has received their tags isn't mandatory, but the peer pressure to show off your art is persistant. :eyeroll:

The 20th is the suggested mailing date so Ms. Mouse has all of our tags by the end of the month. Nobody gets shot for being late, but if you know you'll be really late, just pm alsmouse & let her know so she can make alternate arrangements. :D

Thank you, Inky for filling in that information. As usual you have rescued me. (Having a 'screamer' migraine tonight so don't think I would be as articulate.)
Yes, Teena, you are quite right that there are no 'color police' on this. The only thing I think that Inky missed is that the holes are to be just that, no embelishment through the hole since that makes it hard to have on the ring & fills up the envies really fast.
Other than that, we are really an easy bunch to deal with. Well, except for Tucker. If you don't have chezwhiz available when he is picking the colors he gets very fussy. I actually got him to do this whole year's colors without him being too fussy for more chezwhiz. They say elephants work for peanuts but Tucker is much more 'expensive'. ~C8>

We have to reward such dedication to our Muse's satisfaction!

My bad. Doing this swap has become such an automatic part of my stamping that I tend to operate on auto-pilot when it comes to the standard details. This is a good thing as the creative part takes all one & a half brain cells I have left. I even had to borrow one of Ms Mouse's brain cells the other day as mine had deflated to the point of uselessness. :))

I'm glad to see you take the plunge and give your Muse something new to chew on. If you find yourself thinking hard about how to interpret a color and what image(s) will best showcase the month's colors at odd times, to the point of giving yourself a mild headache...you're doing it right! :eyeroll:

If it were easy peasy nice & breezy every month it wouldn't be a challenge! :D

Mine too! As of right now, we're at 1 + 12 + 2 or 15 tags needed with 14 getting sent to Ms Mouse. For the new folks: the tag math is one copy for your muse (the one you keep for yourself) + one each for the other players + 2 bonus tags (1 for Xray Amy for giving us this mega awesome virtual playground + one for our mystery lurker). So for January (so far) we need 15 tags. THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL FINAL COUNT FOR JANUARY!!! The swap sign up doesn't close for another 2 days & at that time alsmouse will announce our final tag head count. BUT, if you haven't made 15+ tags at this point, you'll need to make more. :D

Well I thought I had mine done too, but this seems to a very popular challange this time.:clap: I now have to make more since I am short a few tags at this point. So i'm wondering how you all have chosen your 4th color?

I tried to get my silly cat to pick a color for me, but she just pointedly ignored me. I explained how Tucker does it and she said......"ME, do rat's work?" i offered to get her Cheese whiz but she just frowned daintily and flicked her tail at me. So i scooped up my paint chips, settled my foil hat on a little better and decided to just pick one from the pile in my bin. That didn't work as well as i had hoped. I got a good color, powder blue but i also just didn't want to use it, it seemed very recent. So i randomly picked another color.....ochre......i don't much like ocher at the best of times so i gave it one more try. Got a purple so dark it was almost black. Then i decided to try a sort of color by fate approach. I would use the color of the next thing i saw with Black, grey, and white all togehter in it. That would have worked but the item i saw was a cataloge and it had every colour in the rainbow on the cover. Then i decided to just look at a bunch of chips next to my Blk,Gry, and Wht and choose the one that appealed most to me. I could have picked the one that seemed them most unusal to me, or the one that i had the most materiel for, or the one i disliked the most (ocher, uug) but i took the one that sang to me.

so i'm wondering, how did you all choose your fouth? Did it involve tuna or some other treat? the next car at the stop light?
your favorite sweater?

alsmouse, please thank Tucker for me. He does good work ; and it's more complex than i'd recognized. :D

Jeanette
01-11-2009, 11:32 AM
Dear j3annin3,

I pretty much picked out my 4th color the same as you did. Only my foil hat is red, uhmmm, I hope I don't choose red as a 4th color for all of the CCTs.

I agree a "big hand" for Alsmouse and Tucker they did a wonderful job picking all of the colors.

I have a color I wanted to use as I have not played with it yet but it did not make sense to the subject matter I had so I went with the color that made sense to the "subject matter'. I know that is maybe taking the easy way out but it looked good so I used it.:confusion:
I did struggle just getting started this time. I guess haveing been sick and still a bit funked out about that was alot more of the challenge to me but once I settled down a bit this one came together rather easily and I was happy.
Not done but at least 1/2 way done so that is good.:)
This year will be a challenge as I am sort of making myself not reuse a wild pick color again after I have used it once unless it is a picked color. Just a little extra twist I placed on myself. Yikes I may be sorry...lol

I considered the nutrality of this month's colors & realized that almost anything would work, so I thought of my fav colors & which ones I haven't been playing with lately. Then I thought about what inks, cardstocks etc I had in those colors & picked my 4th color based on all of these factors. I then chose an image that would work with the colors. Next month's colors won't be so easy. :D

On my January tags, I played around with a couple colors, first the conventional color that seemed a no brainer, but chose to go with an unconventional color for my subject matter.

On my February tags, the colors made me think of an idea, and the natural color choice to finish it up was what I went with. :)

Having more of a struggle with the March choice colors. Haven't decided for sure what to do yet. :confusion: :D

i don't know Jeannette, i wasn't wearing any of my red foil hats: but Red is still the color i chose, but if it's a concern then likely you'll need a few more foil hats and a colander or two. I agree the hat was integral to my progress however. (i guess foil-hatted birds do seem to greatly flock alike :D)

Sighhhh...my sinus infection must have gone to my brain...I was thinking SIX tags instead of 16!!!

Where I got that from I do NOT know...grrrrr.

Just realized it tonite when I was working on these...
No way to get them done and mailed out by tomorrow...so they will go out PRIORITY on Friday, I promise...I am off on Friday and I will put these ahead of everything else I have to do!!!

This week at work has been just plain HARD...and I am looking forward to finishing these and sending them out!

I kept thinking I was going to get a template in the snail mail...and it didn't get here...so I am just using your instructions, and praying I do it right...

Thanks for giving this Newbie the benefit of the doubt here...

Take care and have a great week, everyone!!!

The 'template' is really an email attachment with dimensions, illustrations & directions for how to make the template. If you still want it you can pm or email me your email & I'll send it to you. Don't worry about it too much as it's your first month & many of us botched the dimentions the first time we played on this swap. Once you seen the pattern, it should make more sense. :D

Don't tell Inky, but her first tag is what I use as my template, shush. . .

It certainly was not mine as my first tag came out totally wrong...but nobody hung me up by my ears or tag...and you will not need to worry this is called a challenge...some of us ( points finger to self) are mathematically challenged and still challenged!:)) ( still pointing to self saying measure twice and cut once...or maybe twice cause I misread my notes...)
You will do fine do not worry!<3

LFS alert x 4. My Post was wonderfully full tonight, so full I had to get the key for the big box. Marie's, Spidey's, Pooh's & nejxr25's all arrived today. With such super tags, no wonder I keep sending out the Low Flying Sox alerts. ~C8>

LFS alert. Spidey, looks like you will have to go buy more sox. Another pair took off when childsp's tags arrived. This has been a super batch of tags. You all keep impressing me with your talent.

Someone found one of my missing sox this past week; I have a matching pair! How did that happen? ? ?

I do have to be careful when opening up swaps; never know what may attract pom! I now know to open them up and put them on the tag ring immediately.

:sad: bummer news, I had sent marstamper a PM asking if she had sent her tags, I go the following back;
"I have been away from the computer for awhile, but my tag went out a long time ago. If they are lost in the mail, please go one without me this month. Our mail box was damaged by vandals (along with about 30 others), about the time I mailed them, so they may have been taken."I gave her the options of getting a chance to make replacement tags or to skip a month. Marstamper will be making replacement tags & they will be sent out with the Feburary tags when I get them. I don't know about you but I'm glad Marstamper has decided to make a replacement set.
Oh, as to the vandals:
P.S. I saw an article in the local newspaper, and it said teenagers were behind the vandalized mailboxes. They hit over 10 housing areas in our county...which is only 5 tiny towns and 1 regular smaill town. Apparently it has been going on for a month! I hope they catch them!

We do too! :swear::swear:

Lock up your sox! The tags are on their way to you. They are really neat this time & adding the color makes it interesting. I can't wait to see the Feburary tags. ~C8>

I'm BAREFOOT!!! :)) I got Jan's tags & they are indeed awesome to behold. Kewl Tucker Tucks too Ms. Mouse, thanks! I has 2 questions, who made the SW pepper tag & who made the tag with the pink card stock for the tag w/glitter? Those are the only 2 not signed & I like to give credit where it's due when I upload. :D

Well, I failed as host this time, the pink one is mine. OOPS! My head is so somewhere else. (read 'Mom' here.)
The SW one with the pepper is the tag that 1hand1heart sent in June on the 15th & arrived on January 15th. It sure looks like it should belong but since it had the postie on it I figured that everyone had read the June TCC posting about the late tags.
Inky, you can't complain about Pokie the Snail anymore or we will start sending your mail via AZ. :)):)) ~C8>

Pokey does fine as along as he doesn't have to leave I-5. It's when he has to go east & off the main roads that his GPS fails. :D

I rec'd my CCTs for January. I'm amazed at the different creations for the same basic colors. This is going to be a really fun swap.

And thanks for the Tucker Tucks. I already have plans for at least one of them.

What's the magic number to send for the ones that should be postal on Feb. 23? And btw mine will go out ON the 23, first class...:)

Thanks!

Is it count the # of people signed up and then do a +1? And keep one for yourself?

Sorry...I am in several swaps at once, and just need to clarify...thanks!

Hi Teena I can help you with this one. Alsmouse has spun this February color tag challenge to it's own post now and she tells us to make 14 + 2 = 16 and yes we keep one of our own. The plus 2 are for special people like Amy that created this site and we thank her for the pleasure this community brings to us all and understand she simply cannot play as much as she might like but occasionally she will jump in and play and the other one is for a very special and much loved member that simply cannot play but she does so in spirit with us all. The in the mail date is by the 23rd of February and that simply means you will mail out 15 ( remember to keep one for yourself) It is truly so much fun and you will enjoy this so much you will not want to miss one month! I hope this answered your question. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask and we will gladly help you out.
