Attention All Lurkers & Newbies,
Your presence is requested to join us in the "Tag-o-licious" Color Challange Swap (TCC). The thought process of this swap is to push you to try new color combinations outside our color comfort zones. We all have that Fav color we just reach for when we make a card, we want you to learn to not go for that one but try new colors. It is a challange to to try the colors in a new way, to work beyond your usual range. So even if you don't join us in the tags swap (which you should since you get some really fantastic tags to give you color ideas), try it at home. So, come & join us, you'll really enjoy the challange to expand your color horizions. Please let us know if you will be playing in this month's swap. New players are welcome to join us.
September's colors will be beach glass blue/water green/lime/white.
As usual the tags will be due in the mail by the 20th of their respective months.
As of today 09/03/08, I have the following players listed:
inky whiskers
spideycindy
pieces & pom
alsmouse
monkeykeeper
poohstamps
AudreyRose
childsp
marstmper

plus 1 for Amy as a thank you for RSC & 1 for our resident lurker.
TOTAL so far:16
Attention: We are getting more tags (which in it self is super) than a regular legal size will be able to handle well. I'm going to request that we upgrade to a sturdier style of envie. There are 2 options, #1 a padded 4" x 7" to allow for any embelishments that we have added to the tags OR #2 using 6" x 9" manilla clasp envies. Both of these will hold the tags well and allow for them to arrive back to you in good shape. Please consider the new style request will need a bit more postage for shipping.
"Monkey Keeper asked: Is there a color chart we can refer to for some of the colors? Or are the color names specific so a brand of inkpad or marker? Or do we just make our best estimate of what a color is supposed to be?"
"Inky Whiskers replied-A perfectly reasonable question, but nope, we don't use a color chart or a specific brand of anything. This swap is all about stretching our creative muscles by using colors & combinations we might not normally choose to work with. Other than the required size of the tag & corner/hole specifics, you can do whatever comes to your muse & use whatever supplies you have or want to buy. (like any of us need more than the slightest of nudges to head for the LSS )
Some of us go with the first thing that comes to mind when we learn what the month's colors are & others wander around for a few days/weeks thinking about the colors & waiting for inspiration to strike. If you have to use at least one brain cell to come up with an idea for this, then you're doing it right. The point is to do something different, not go on stamping autopilot. This is also a great opportunity to experiment with new techniques & play with new or not often used stamps, inks, embellishments & papers. You should get 8 tags from one sheet of 8.5x11 card stock and so far, 2 sheets of card stock has been enough (w/left overs) to do each month's set of tags. Also, take notes as you go of what you use for stamps (w/company name), inks, papers & embellishments so you remember everything when you type up the supply list for the back of your tags. If you have room, include basic info about the technique. Many of us include this info with better directions when we upload to our galleries as well.
If you're really suck trying to visualize a particular color, try Googling it to see what others in the art world have come up with for that color. This is a very subjective process & there really aren't any 'wrong' answers. So go have some fun!!!"
The tag size is 2 3/4" x 4 1/4" with the one end having the corners cut off at the .5" mark on the 90 degree point, a 1/4" hole punched in middle of cut end
Please, as long as we leave the tag holes undecorated with ribbons & stuff, they will be easy to mail back & forth.
As for cutting of the corners & making the hole so all our tags more or less match...I have a tip for the others: make a template for cutting the corners & punching the hole. For those who need it, if you PM me, I will send out a template. I realize the instructions are a bit lengthy. You will need a piece of light weight card stock that is 2.75"x2".
1) Along one of the long sides of the card stock, use a ruler to mark the .5" from the corner points on both corners.
2) Use the ruler to mark .5" from the corner points on each of the short sides on the same corners you marked already.
3) Cut from one side mark to the mark at a 90 degree angle from it. Repeat for the other corner. (make the cuts in one motion by using long bladed scissors, a cutter of some kind or a craft knife w/ruler)
4) Measure along the same 2.75" side you cut the corners from to find the middle (1 3/8" from both sides) and make a dot.
5) Make a hole by centering the 1/4" punch over the dot.
6) Place this template on the back side of one end of every tag & mark with a pencil where the corner cut lines & hole should be.
7) After marking all tags, proceed with cutting off the corners & punching the holes in all of your tags.
Now you can have the ends of your tags all look the same, every month, and so will everybody elses.
Also please type up a supply & techniques list, shrink it to a size that will easily fit the back of the tag fronts, copy the list to fill the sheet, cut the lists apart then stick them to the back. If your recipe is a long one, include the smaller ones in the envie along with your tags & I will make sure that everyone gets a copy & they can decide how they want to attach it to your tag. Once you have completed your color combination, just mail the required number of tags in a approprite sized envie plus an approprite sized envie SASE inside, I'll make sure that we each get one card of each others work. Don't forget to keep one for your self.
Now go create something wonderful ~C8>

Did you feel your brain cells stretch doing this month's colors, Nancy? :D
LOL - actually the blue and green are my favorite colors, so it really wasn't a stretch for me with those two. The lime green did throw me a curve - but I think I managed!
I've posted it on my blog for those who want a first look:

Well done, Nancy! Maybe the next set of colors will make you think more.
Audrey, EVERYBODY has something to offer in this & every other swap!!! Each person brings that element that is uniquely them to everything they do & we all have the opportunity to learn something new when we see what others do when given the same parameters to play with. It may be a new interpretation of a color we only thought we knew well or it may be a different way to attach the pieces together. There's always something to discover or at least be reminded of when we look at each others art. Whether your 'style' is nekkid, ornate or somewhere inbetween depending on your muse's mood, it's ALL good! :D
As for my Sept tags? I pulled together the colors pretty easily & then said to myself "Now what?" I have the backgrounds done, but have yet to figure out what to put on them. Something will come to me & I have 6 days left to play with before the mail snail knocketh. :eyeroll: I'm hearing a whisper from my muse. She's hinting that maybe I need to pull out the glitz again. :))
Audreyrose
09-14-2008, 04:37 PM
Glitz and Bling are my thing! I try to put a little sparkle in just about all that I do. I have even used glitter on embossing paste when I made a man's card. The glitter (not alot) was sprinkled over a gold Buck (deer) Looked really cool. I don't need alot of glitz but a little can just add that extra POP that you may be looking for.
Thanks Jenna for the kind words. I love doing the swaps and now am addicted to them which reminds me I need to get my Sept card done and in the mail soon also. Have a great week all and talk to you all soon.
Blessings,
Audrey <3

If the attacher gun is the one that shoots out the little plastic tags & you can't find yours, call a local clothing store & ask if you could bring in your "bullets", & use theirs. There is usually an odd store that is willing to help. ~C8>

I can tell I've been working too hard - not stamping! My Sept tags will also be off as soon as I can get them to go; my original idea would have worked but after going to two LSS I don't have enough ink to do all 16, boo hiss!
Combine that with spending Sat at the local LSS in not one but two coloring classes - yup, that's the direction I'm going to go in but now have to find the image. I'm spending time at the car dealership tomorrow morning so hopefully I'll get most of the coloring done there and can get them out.
Sorry to hear about Miss Swish - I just got back from getting antibiotics for pieces. She has another urinary track infection; didn't know that is classic for Persian kitties. Don't quite know what to do for her since it's her third in a year. . .
j3annin3
09-22-2008, 06:28 PM
Karen, will Peices take cranberry juice? I really didn't think my silly cat would; but she actually likes it....it was something the specialist recommended and it really did help. I started out mixing it with her wet food and then when she wouldn't or couldn't eat anything anymore, i found she would drink it straight from a little dessert bowl, :confusion: go figure. There are also somewhat expensive special treats (which Ms. Swish wouldn't even sniff at twice) and special for UTI foods, mostly they have cranberry, taurine, and active live cultures. Plain yogurt is also helpful. But you could ask your Vet for ideas.
I got my tags in the mail this evening. This was definitely not my best month. Even outside of Ms. Swish's emergency i doubt i'd have done the colors justice, it was a big challenge for me. I made alot of mistakes and i'm not sure how they all ended up being slightly different sizes  if that silly cat were here i could blame it on her. :D
Thank you all agian for waiting for me, and most especially for your good thoughts for my cat.

What J3annin3 said! Besides, more often than not, our projects are better than we think they are. We get an idea & if the finished item doesn't look just like what we saw in our heads then we think we've failed. (or at least only gotten a C grade) Plus, as the artist, you can see every little potentially perceived flaw: tag bases 1/16" off in length/width from each other, one tag glued slightly crooked (it's not crooked, its whimsical!), the colors didn't come out the exact same on every tag, etc.....because you are intimately familiar with every tag you make.
1) If you didn't tell anybody, nobody else would notice those microscopic 'flaws' that are bugging you since nobody knows what you wanted them to look like except YOU!
2) If each tag isn't an EXACT duplicate, well DUH!!! We're stamping here!!! If we wanted xerox copies we'd being doing our 'art' on the computer & printing out however many copies needed. Even in art printing, the copies have tiny variations between the prints. Besides, only you & Ms. Mouse will ever see all of your tags together which makes the lil differences stand out more. The rest of us will only see the tag we receive in context with all the other member's tags and they always look FANTABULOUS!!!
P.S. Mine are going postal today too. :D

You are most welcome, girlfriend!!!
I'm always my own worse critic & have noticed that whenever I sweat over perceived flaws in a project then show that project to somebody I know will be honest with me...they either don't see the flaws I see or see them but don't think they're as big a deal as I'm making them out to be.
Art, like life, isn't about perfection. It's about progress & I know we've all seen progress in our artistic efforts since we started this challenge. :D

Ms Mouse was totally on board when she and Tucker titled it a Challenge and that pretty much says volumes...some months are easier than others and it goes beyond the colors but the execution and images...so many factors beyond..Color, and Tag, and Challenge.
It is so much fun to work with and through it no matter where it leads us. I have some that I did that I really do not like at all and others that just clicked so fast for me I was amazed. Some are happy surprises and most unexpected outcomes.
Sometimes this brain o mine is the biggest challenge...:))

Tucker liked his "shadow". Stared at it, sniffed it, tasted it. It will be a nice addition to his Art Gallery, which is getting quite extensive with all the tags he scurries off with. I'm thinking of getting some plastic sleeves to protect all the stuff he feels he needs to decorate his cage.
(for those who are confused, Tucker is my pet, a domesticated rat. He has his own fan club here since he is responsible for picking the card swap partners & all of the Color Challange Tag colors.) Audrey sent a wood veneer "shadow" of him, which really captures his chubby profile well. Thank you, Audrey. Ann ~C8>

Wouldn't you know it, I get a headache, land in a bed with a trapeze over it  & a lot of cute male nurses & I'm feeling too crummy to even enjoy the irony of the whole thing. :)):))
Thank you all for your well wishes. I'm doing better and will be on a new round of drugs to control my migraines. Now I just have to avoid lots of zippy tags. :D
Tucker didn't seem to miss me much since Sis stopped by & explained to him that I wouldn't be home one night & gave him a big mouthful of chezwhiz. I did get a lot of cuddling but after that he curled up in a ball & slept.
Again, thank you for your kind thoughts. Ann

 I sure hope the new meds work. My DH and I have been having headaches lately also but I believe it is sinus related. I unfortunately know the difference between a migraine and a sinus headache as I have also suffered from migrains in the past. Take care my friend, my thoughts and prayers are with you!
Blessings,
Audrey

Have the Sept tags been mailed out yet? My postal service is generally slow and I'm just wondering if they've gone astray!!
Looking forward to seeing them!

No, the tags have not gone out yet. As I am adjusting to my new meds, I have been avoiding driving any great distances since my eyes can't focus on one thing for too long. I have had visits to the Dr.s & a coworker drove me since he was concerned about the eyesight thing. I plan on getting the tags out on Thursday. I'll even walk them there if I have to. I'm sorry about the delay but I would rather have a slight delay in tag delivery than cause an accident getting them to the post office. ~C8>

Oh, Ms. Mouse, please take care of yourself. I've been waiting rather impatiently but your health is more important than 'tag' deliveries.

Please, Please, please, take care of yourself. Tags can wait, you are what is important to all of us!

Oh sure, you say it's a medical issue.....:noway: but i think you and Tucker are just hoarding them, you probalby have them all in a big pile and are tossing them up in the air and running through them like Autumn leaves.
not that i wouldn't understand just how that might be fun

I blame it on the virtual margaritas...they can have a nasty kick:)) Hey they will be every bit as exciting when we receive them and knowing you are navigating safely is most important!
Nancy I promise you will be so happy you played with us and I hope you will sign up again!

The Tags have left the building. :D I took the bulging bag of envies of tags to the local postal drop. Played musical stamps, adding stamps for the shorties. The postal gal just had to ask: "You bring a bundle just about every month that are all about the same, what are you shipping?" I had thrown in the ring of tags so pulled it out & I know that if she didn't have a line waiting, she would have loved to play with the tags. I frequent 3 different post offices & each one knows the ring of tags. If it is a slow day, they want to play.
I had tossed the ring of tags in to share with the owner of my LSS. She was so impressed with the tags. You should feel so proud that your creations have such an impact on so many people. I am always happy to share all the lovelies you create & I wish you could see how people react to them. ~C8>

I am really looking forward to seeing what everyone did, those colors were somewhat tricky for me. And we had some many new players. It's goona be quite an envelope :D the letter carrier will hear it pop and fizz and have wonder if that sort of excitement is allowed to go through the US postal service.
