Hi All,
Sorry I’m so tardy with getting this posted for this month. I have a really good excuse, I’ve been on jury duty all week. I never realized just how tired you get sitting & listening to a boring topic for hours on end. ZZZZZZzzzzzzz. My mind is melting.......
So as usual, following is a list of events that are happening this month. Please suggest a theme for the month of August. I provide the list of events only as idea starters, but if you have something better, put in as a suggestion. I will make a list of your suggestions & who will be playing. When I post the list of suggestions please return your vote as quickly as possible. It will be a 1:1 swap with the partners picked by Tucker. Suggestion cutoff will be 08/05/08. With a vote cutoff by 08/10/08. I will announce the winning choice on 08/11/08 and will have a MAILING DUE DATE OF 08/25/08. ~C8>

Please sign me up and I'll go with the majority on the theme. I'm going on vacation. . .back online maybe? the 10th or 11th.

Only one MZB left Inky and he is so ill he didn't recognize me last time i went to the hospital to see him. Most likely he won't make it home for Christmas. :(

Oh! I missed Bad Poetry Day the first time i read this!! I can do bad poetry, i definitely think it deserves some consideration as a theme. I suspect we could all (gleefully and with abandon) do bad poetry; and if we don't do it, when else might it get the recognition it deserves.
i can write things that almost rhyme
at least some of the time
but try though i will
i look for it still,
a word to say with,
to sing and dance and play with,

Hey all, I usually don't do suggestions for these but I'm going to do one for this month. You all will still decide the theme, I'm just throwing out a suggestion.
How about a tribute to the MZB's?

:)) silly people, <3 they would laugh but they'd never mind if we chose some other theme. I'm pretty sure they'd be even more happy and honored if we all just did something silly for ourselves.
and if you've got em, zuchini bomb some neighbors' porch -i woudln't normally advocate such behaviour but as there is a special day for it and everything

08-02-2008, 01:08 PM
Yeah, we're silly alright, but we're not to the point of wearing football helmets with our Santa suits. :)) Besides, MZB's is more better fun than 'Leave zucchini on the neighbor's porch night' for a card theme. :D

I don't know what an MZB is. Would somebody enlighten me?
I was thinking Girlfriends or Sisters. Sometimes a sister is your best girlfriend and sometimes your girlfriends are more like a sister.
I lost my sister many years ago and I still miss her.

The Mad Zucchini Bombers were a group of retired men who lived in j3annin3's neighborhood & would do some amazingly whacky things to avoid boredom. The below link is to the delightful story j3annin3 shared with us. You'll want to keep reading after that as the conversation gets pretty entertaining. :D

Yes, do read all of both threads after that. They are truely endearing & charming. As a group, we have taken the exploits to heart & find the MZB a group of guys trying to keep their youths alive even if they are either much older or have since passed. I still go back on occasion & read those threads since they are so charming.
Hey J3annin3, how about writing a bit more about them, dig up some history. I know they were doing lots of things of the same ilk even before you started writing about them. I know I always want more of their stories.

They sound like lovely fun bombers. I've heard people having to keep their cars locked during zucchini season. lol
I appreciate the MZB enlightenment.

It's okay Spidey, :) My feelings won't be even a little bruised if you and we don't do a tribute to the Mad Zuchinni Bombers. I am sad when i think about them. The last MZB can't breath on his own. His family is dealing with the difficult decision to terminate life support. He's had several strokes and the resulting damage is considerable. He lays on the bed looking shrunken and crumpled-yellow like celophane that was put in the dryer. I can see his bones through his skin. No one who knew them but me would even know if we made cards about them.
I think we could and should do something happy, something everyone can celebrate! Sisters, girlfriends, cat fishes and of course bad bad poetry. Any of those are good with me.

I would not want to push something that would make you sad...perhaps some things are best kept in the heart and those chuckles that bring back happier healthier times will be in order... I like the bad poetry idea and of course being eyeglass related...cataract education month is good for me as well. I could even combine the two...poetry and cataracts!:))
If I make the count off pull my name on this one.

We can always wait until next August 8th to honor the MZBs for their Lifetime Achievement on "Leave Zucchini (& other produce) on People's Porch Night".
Or we could all send our Aug MZB cards to j3annin3 to take to the last member to let him & his family, as well as the families of the other Bombers, know that their playful & giving spirits touched more people than those they gifted & will not be forgotten.

I like the idea of holding off to next year to honor the MZB's. The last one isn't going to be with us much longer & if we do it as a memorial to all of them next July/August then we could send them to j3annin3 to share the stories & cards with the remaining family members. I think they would like that honor. Inky, if this is decided, would you please put it on your popup calender for next year?
Lets pick some other theme & plan for the MZB cards for next year.
Spidey, If you are playing let me know, I'll re do the swap partner listing. Don't worry, it is still early enough to change that, since we are still picking a theme. ~C8>

My 2nd choice swap theme is 'Girlfriends' since that's what we've all become over the last year or so. :lovie: We could even tell each other what our RSC friendships mean to us using bad poetry.
P.S. I made note on my pop-up calender to remind us on July 1st, 2009 that we wanted to do a MZB memorial tribute. I also copy/pasted the 2 MZB stories to save them, just in case they get lost under umpteen million threads by next year. :D

Hello stampwoman, :)
do you prefer to be stampwoman or Michelle?
there aren't many rules. The swap is for a card, not a card front on the theme agreed upon by the rest of the group. This month it's girlfriends and bad poetry. Your swap partner is Inky Whiskers...you send the card you made to her. If her address isn't in the Member files you can PM her to ask for it, or leave a post here and ask her to PM it to you.
I am your other swap partner. I'll make and send a card to you.
The swapping list is on page #4 of this thread.
Tucker, alsmouse's pet rat, chooses who gets who in the swap (he does this from the goodness of his heart and for some cheese whiz)
the due date is the card is to be mailed by August 25th. That's about it. Some of my questions when i first started participating in this swap were,
are there size requrements? ....no
must there be some sentiment or text? .....no (well maybe for this swap since it's 'bad poetry')
any special techniques? .....only if you want
is this a card from me to them or a card i make and give to them to give or use for some one else?
.... it's a card from you to them, not a card you make and send for them to use.
if you have other questions, ask away, if none of the rest of us know,
alsmouse as host has all the answers,
:D

Don't sweat it, Michelle! My addy is in my member file & I'm good for whatever your muse tells you to do concering the theme. Swaps here are all about friendship & having good inky fun! :D
Inky Whiskers

I dug up the list to clarify for our new swappers who sends to who by the 25th of August:
Swapper -----Swapee
Pieces&pom-----Stmpstone
AudreyRose-----Spidey Cindy
J3eannine-----Stampwoman
Inky Whiskers-----AudreyRose
Stmpstone-----Inky Whiskers
Alsmouse----- Pieces&pom
Spidey Cindy-----J3eannine
Stampwoman-----Alsmouse
So Stampwoman isn't sending to me as previously posted, Stmpstone is. The first column is the stamper & the 2nd column is who they are sending their card to. Tucker is very objective about picking partners for 1-2-1 swaps! :D

If you clink on my name in the member's list, it will take you to my member page. One short cut is to click the word 'posts' in the brown header line just above the member listings. This will reorganize the list by the # of posts each member has made since joining RSC. I'm still avaraging about 150 post behind Stampin' Stacy putting me at #2 in the list.
When you get to my page there is an open message box with file tabs across the top. The 2nd one is 'about me', that's where you'll find my addy. :D

Confessions to Ms Mouse! I have already pm'd my personal swap partner about my miserable failure on this card. I am working to fix the failed element and have been keeping in touch with her. So:o but sometimes the ink makes a really big mess on your design and it fails perhaps with good reason? Anyway. Michelle, I hope you took photos so you can post it. And she even included a few little "Tuckers" in the card. There is one of them hanging on to the edge of the card that has his wide bottom so that must be him. :))

I'm so glad you liked it. I had so much fun doing it. Those laughing bears kept me smiling the whole time I worked on it. I scanned the front onto my computer, but I don't know how to put pictures on the website. Is there a tutorial somewhere on this site to assist the semi-computer illiterate? I think it would be exciting to see my "work in print" on a gallery no less!! woo hoo! Thanks again for the kind words! I want to know more about this Tucker. I want to know more about this Tucker. Is he the one from Cricket in the Times Square book?
No, Tucker is not of that fame. He is my domesticated pet rat. He has a fan club here with the RSC crowd and even gets mail from his Aunties here. He is a chubby (just like his mom.) little guy with dark brown/black fur over most of his body, having a white nose, feeties & a tummy stripe. He is the one that is responsible for picking the card swap partners. And his most important 'job' is to pick the Color Challange Tag Swap colors. Since rats are color blind we are always surprised at his color choices. In fact September's colors are beach glass blue, lime, water green & white, so you can see that he has interesting choices. The way he picks the colors is that I will lay down a random batch of paint color swatches face down in a double circle. I put him in the middle of the circle & watch to see which swatches he finds interesting by either picking them up or nibbling on them. His 'reward' for his services is a mouthful of chezwhiz. Other than his part time job he is a quiet, friendly, sweetie who loves to hang out & watch his 'mommy' create. And he occasionally gets the artistic muse & will help distress a piece I am working on. LOL I hope that brings all the newbies up to speed on just who Tucker is. I just wish you could all meet him since he loves to meet new people, I even take him to the LSS on shopping trips. Ann ~C8> ( see the rat)

Hey Ann,
Do you have pics in your album here on the site, in your profile? That way we could at least see Tucker and you! It would be great to connect a face with all the great writing you do and to see your little sweetie, so we can really fall in love totally with him! I had a friend who had a pet rat and I thought it was the greatest thing, really loved him he was sooo friendly and loving. <3

No Problema Senora Jenna. I am waiting patiently, it will still take about 3 weeks before it arrives here after it gets in the mail. :))

I think that's a great idea. I, too, would love to see the little guy!
QUOTE=Audreyrose;21804]Hey Ann,
Do you have pics in your album here on the site, in your profile? That way we could at least see Tucker and you! It would be great to connect a face with all the great writing you do and to see your little sweetie, so we can really fall in love totally with him! I had a friend who had a pet rat and I thought it was the greatest thing, really loved him he was sooo friendly and loving. <3[/QUOTE]

As Fliss can vouch, Tucker is rather camera shy. He seems to know when I'm pointing a camera his way & turns his back or squirts under his blankie. I've tried to take photos of him even while someone is holding him & no luck. I have promised Fliss the first photos so IF I can ever get him to cooperate there will be mug shots of him. His fan club is demanding them. ~C8>

I'm so excited because I just got my card from J3annin3! It is a beautiful card and matching envelope in shades of purple (one of my favorite colors!) with layered papers on the front. Thanks so much, I love it! I also got a laminated bookmark with a poem that I'm guessing is supposed to be bad, but I really enjoyed it.
If anyone would like, I will share the poem here.
Thanks again J3annin3, Alsmouse and Tucker. I hope I get to swap with you again.

I'm happy you got it Michelle, :o oh the poem is a sad bad bit of doggerel, but if it were good then i'd not have worked the theme. i am glad you enjoyed it though. :D i had lots of fun making it.

I'm so glad the card arrived, Jenna.
I think that's the funniest set of stamps. It's one of the $100 party hostess sets from The Angel Company. You know, you could only stamp it on a nice card. There are four stamps in the set and they're all just as funny.
I almost used "This card was a good idea gone UGLY" The words go every which way. They go up one side then down the middle. Some people commented that they thought this was a terrible set. It appeals to me and my sense of humor. It will taste the ink often.
I hope everybody is having a nice end of the summer holiday. We're supposed to get some rain later on....sometimes our mountains will split a storm and it will just go around us. We shall see what happens tonight.
I don't get excited looking for rain anymore since we put in Xeriscape landscaping. The rain will wash our rocks.
When we bought the house, my last name was Southstone. I said I was going to put a large rock on the south side of our property and call it my Southstone. I changed my name twice before I got my Southstone. I told Bob we have a couple of Gates there so now I want my stone. It weighs about 2500 lbs but nobody guesses it's that heavy. It is bigger than Plymouth Rock though. (Boy was that ever a disappointment......I was expecting something like the Rock of Gibralter)
hugs, Claudia

Sure, I'll post the one that I got from J3annin3 (although I'm sticking with my original opinion that it is Not a bad poem, I liked it!)...
stamps: rubber
un-mounted or clear.
paper backed wood veneer,
stickers, stencils,
prismacolor pencils,
twinkling paints in pots,
super sticky glue dots,
spritzers, sprays,
and glitzers
powders, and chalks,
clear acrylic
stamping blocks,
embellishments in trays,
fixatives, and microglaze,
inks: permanent
pigment and dye,
new techniques to try,
swaps and challenges
I happily recommend,
but what I most like
to stamp with is
a rubber stamping friend
see! it's cute, right?
(Thanks again, J3annin3)
