Hi All,
As I let you know in the April thread, we will be trying something new for the next two months. I will be anouncing the colors for both May & June so that the folks who have a hard time getting to a LSS or Big Box have a better chance to be prepared.
May will be:
forest green
baby pink
coral
June will have:
brick
black
white
silver
Now for the Sales pitch for all you lurkers & newbies. Please let us know if you will be playing in this month's swap. New players are welcome to join us. The thought process of this swap is to push you to try new color combinations outside our color comfort zones. We all have that Fav color we just reach for when we make a card, we want you to learn to not go for that one but try new colors. It is a challange to to try the colors in a new way, to work beyond your usual range. So even if you don't join us in the tags swap (which you should since you get some really fantastic tags to give you color ideas), try it at home. So, come & join us, you'll really enjoy the challange to expand your color horizions.
As usual the tags will be due on the 20th of their respective months.
Attention: We are getting more tags (which in it self is super) than a regular legal size will be able to handle well. I'm going to request that we upgrade to a sturdier style of envie. There are 2 options, #1 a padded 4" x 7" to allow for any embelishments that we have added to the tags OR #2 using 7" x 10" manilla clasp envies. Both of these will hold the tags well and allow for them to arrive back to you in good shape. Please consider the new style request may need a bit more postage for shipping.
The tag size is 2 3/4" x 4 1/4" with the one end having the corners cut off at the .5" mark on the 90 degree point, a 1/4" hole punched in middle of cut end
Please, as long as we leave the tag holes undecorated with ribbons & stuff, they will be easy to mail back & forth.
As for cutting of the corners & making the hole so all our tags more or less match...I have a tip for the others: make a template for cutting the corners & punching the hole.
You will need a piece of light weight card board that is 2.75"x2".
1) Along one of the long sides of the card board, use a ruler to mark the .5" from the corner points on both corners.
2) Use the ruler to mark .5" from the corner points on each of the short sides on the same corners you marked already.
3) Cut from one side mark to the mark at a 90 degree angle from it. Repeat for the other corner. (make the cuts in one motion by using long bladed scissors, a cutter of some kind or a craft knife w/ruler)
4) Measure along the same 2.75" side you cut the corners from to find the middle (1 3/8" from both sides) and make a dot.
5) Make a hole by centering the 1/4" punch over the dot.
6) Place this template on the back side of one end of every tag & mark with a pencil where the corner cut lines & hole should be.
7) After marking all tags, proceed with cutting off the corners & punching the holes in all of your tags.
Now you can have the ends of your tags all look the same, every month, and so will everybody elses.
Also please type up a supply & techniques list, shrink it to a size that will easily fit the back of the tag fronts, copy the list to fill the sheet, cut the lists apart then stick them to the back. If your recipe is a long one, include the smaller ones in the envie along with your tags & I will make sure that everyone gets a copy & they can decide how they want to attach it to your tag. Once you have completed your color combination, just mail the required number of tags in a approprite sized envie plus an approprite sized envie SASE inside, I'll make sure that we each get one card of each others work. Don't forget to keep one for your self.
Now go create something wonderful ~C8>

Count me in for May & June! :D
My schedule has lightened considerably, so I think I can manage to get my tags in the mail on time next month.
Knowing the colors in advance does make it easier to plan ahead & get everything done early if one knows one will be bogged down in the near future.

The 20th of The color month. So May's colors will be due May 20th & June's colors will be due June 20th. It's still by month, but to help those who have life get in the way of playing with their inks, and also gives them the chance to shop for what ever they need to make the "perfect" tags, we are giving out the colors ahead of time. Clearer?? ~C8>

Welcome to the 'challenge' part of this swap, Susi! :)) Getting a little frustrated & having to think in new directions is EXACTLY what alsmouse had in mind when she started this swap in January. This is an opportunity to think out side of the comfort zone we all have when it comes to using color in our stamping.
P.S. Don't blame alsmouse for the colors, Tucker the Rat does the choosing for us. :D

Well, I'm wondering; did coral seem like a cheese-like color to Tucker? And what color is coral really. . .? Wonder what coral looks like to the fishies down in the deep blue sea. . .
I guess I had better explain the process that Tucker goes thru to chose our monthly colors. I had explained it once before in a long ago thread. I lay down a random double circle of "liberated" paint chips on the floor. These are all face down & are handled long enough to lay them down & then at the end of the process picked up & placed in a large plastic bag. They are all done is a random manner as they come out of the zippy bag. Rats are colorblind so he doesn't know color choices but when he is placed in the center of the circle, I watch to see where he spends the most time either pushing the swatch or picking it up to nibble on. After he has been a super assistant, he is put back in his cage to a Cheese Whiz squirt reward.(I know it's scary but he likes it).
So to think that coral is a 'cheesy' color to him, yuh, no.
As for the color of coral and how fish see it. Coral have a wide range of colors under water, they are from frost white to black, each variety is made up of hundreds of thousands of little corals that group together and create the calcium deposits that we see as corals. If you have ever seen a really good exhibit of corals you will actually see all the little critters waving their little feeders out to collect all the sea goodies they eat. They can actually look hairy.
Most fish have a limited color range that they can see. However, octupus & squid can see colors, octupus better. Also remember that as light filters down further & further, the ultraviolet light that produces the color red is slowly removed by the depth of the water. That's why when Cousteau started filming underwater it was such a cool thing. They compensated for the removal of color from the depth of the water with special lights on the cameras.

Wonderfully educational, Ms. Mouse!
In the art world, coral is usually somewhere between a pink & an orange. What it gets put with (other colors) can change how it's perceived. Coral & pink together tend to make the coral look orangy. Coral & orange together tend to make the coral look pinkish. It's another one of those 'no wrong answer' colors. :D

As for coral I looked it up on wikipedia, and on google images and came up with a color for for coral (say that fast 3 times!) that I liked, and I just happened to have an ink pad that is close, that I've been wanting to use for a long time! So I am happy now, and I will spending today at making my tags at my demo at Hobby Lobby. What better place to make them, where I need to be demonstrating my art form!

But I did finally come up with something I like, it's simple, like most of what I do anyway right now, but it'll work, and it's pretty! We'll do fine, I am sure of that, whatever we do. Goodness, my parents seem to be falling down left and right. Mother went down twice last week and is now seeing the Wound Clinic almost daily for dressing changes and antibiotics to see if they can repair the damage to her legs. No broken bones but at age 85, she is not going to heal well. I have so many frequent flyer miles I can leave on a moment's notice but I hope I don't have to.
I am going to do my tags beginning tonight. Hopefully my Muse will slap me upside the head and give me some creative ideas LOL!

Actually, I am such a softie that I am taking Dottie the Corgi up to Portland this weekend so she can spend the night with her previous owner while I spend the night with a friend and see the dentist. "Betty" the senior owner is just thrilled and Dottie will have a ball. I spent a fortune at the vet getting Dots up-to-date on rabies, etc. and now have her on arthritis medicene (Rimadyl) and she has turned back into a puppy. She bounces like a bunny when she is happy - which is hysterical to watch!

I'm glad Dottie is getting a second chance. I've seen too many older dogs euthanized because there are few people who think that they will make great pets, or want 'that cute puppy'. I'd rather an older dog. They have developed their personality and are usually potty trained. Nancy, Thank you for giving Dottie a loving home. ~C8>

Mine are postal too, I did go to the PO, so they should arrive tomow or Tuesday at the latest.
I am glad that that you clarified the due date Missy Mouse, 'casue I was thinking the same, that they needed to be in your hands by the 20th.

I'm a little more obsessive about getting most of my swaps out in the mail early 'cause I held up some previous swaps earlier this year. Getting stuff from one coast to the other sometimes takes a bit more time. . .especially with my wacky P.O.!

I am terribly sorry but I am leaving for the airport to fly home (again!) and I am going to have back out of this month's tags and next month's. I will stay in touch and check the boards but I will not be able to be part of any challenges for some time.

Just remember...the colors are what "you" see them as. For example, the coral...in Hawaii some of the most beautiful "coral" was a pink....a gorgeous pink!!
And my forest green is the color that is in the forest behind my house. It may not be the same as yours, or what you think it should be.
I would liked to have done more to my tags, but just didn't have the time.

I know it wasn't j3annin3, but I think I saw Ms. Mouse's socks flying by! :))
I'm almost done with both the RSC stamps & the Puyallup stamps! I just need to add the index images to my binders, so I know where everything goes & then put them all away. Granted, this will take a few hours, but I enjoy the process.
Oh! I still have an order from Puyallup I'm waiting for for plus ATRS is having a mondo sale this week & I ordered from them yesterday. The one is for stamps & the ATRS is mostly ink refills I needed, but there is one set of lil texture stamps I'll have to process when they get here. They're polymer, so it will go fast. :D
Unless a sale comes up that I just can't refuse, I think I'm saturated for at least a few months from buying more stamps (plus I have not one but 2 RRR swaps headed my way). Now to use them all! :noway: I am such an addict! :))

Tenetively, the list is below. However, this does not mean there won't be more signing up in June. So...
Attention All Lurkers, Your presence is requested to join us in the "Tag-o-licious" Color Challange Swap. Please let us know if you will be playing in this month's swap. New players are welcome to join us.
Tenetive:
June- childsp, pieces & pom, j3annin3, marstmper, inky whiskers, madradubh, spideycindy, marie, 1hand1<3, alsmouse.

She signed up for this swap on 051808 but hasn't been in contact with RSC or returned my PM & E's to her. I haven't received her tags yet & was hoping that all is OK. Anyone?? That's a daily thing around here! :D
A couple of years ago near the holidays, DH was eating lunch downtown and an older couple with their young grandaughter came in. The little girl kept going on tip toes, crouching low & peering around plants trying to get a better look at DH. The grandmother tried to pull the little girl away, but the little girl said in that carrying voice of the young, "But grandma! It's Santa Claus!".
At that point DH looked over and said, "Ho! Ho! Ho! Even Santa needs to eat lunch!" Have you been a good girl? If so, I'll see you soon!"
The little girl walked away with a look of total awe on her face.
I bet NOBODY will ever convince that child that Santa isn't real. :))

How nice of your husband!
I'm discovering that my eldest's career choice is probably a good one. She still wishes for the uncomplicated life of Disney's princesses, etc., so early childhood education seems to be a good choice. And she definitely would still want to believe in Santa.

Teaching is a good career! My gram taught mostly 4th grade for almost 30 years. Hopefully she'll be allowed to say 'Christmas' to the kids & not risk her job doing it. :noway:
He has his moments! I loved it when he played tooth fairy for DS. Did you know that the tooth fairy can still deliver the $ even if you've swallowed the tooth, if you write 'her' a note? And no, 'she' doesn't expect you to fish the tooth out later. :))

I KNOW that Santa is real. L. Frank Baum wrote his biography. Baum is the same writer who wrote The Wizard of Oz books. Once you read "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus", you will believe too. I have read it every year starting on Dec. 1. If you can find a copy, do read it. It is a sweet story and has the most stunning illustrations. After seeing those illustrations I have been a follower of Amy's stamps since they have the same artistic feel. Check out Dover Publications or Powells.com for copies. Try not to get the ones priced under $4, they don't have the illustrations. ~C8>
