Has anyone here used these before. They are supposed to be so much better than Tombow's because they don't fade. They are pricey though, so I wanted some opinions before I dove in!

They are pricey though, so I wanted some opinions before I dove in! Cathy piecesandpom 03-27-2008, 09:50 PM If you do a search under Copic markers four threads come up with information. I'm still keeping my other markers and my prismacolor pencils 'cause I like lots of coloring options.:) piggy30 03-28-2008, 06:50 AM I was just wondering if anyone had any personal experience with them. I'm not planning on replacing all of my other coloring tools, just planning on possibly adding more. But at $5 a marker, I wanted to know if they were worth it. piecesandpom 03-28-2008, 08:15 AM If you go to my gallery you'll see the hearts ATC with the birds in a cage and a nest. This was done with Copics - the sparkle of the paper comes through the copic markers, very kewl! The colors are just more intense than you can get with dye markers (watercolors) and you can 'erase' or blend with the copic blending pen. Gina K has discovered that you can color a stamp with the copic markers, mist with rubbing alcohol and get the same results that you would with dye-based markers. piggy30 03-28-2008, 08:20 AM Wow, I'm liking the results! I think I'm going to splurge then! Thanks for the info! Cathy alsmouse 03-28-2008, 09:22 AM The pens come in 3 sizes. There is the big squared off ones, a monster 1.5 inch wide one & a smaller, easier to handle oval one that is usually cheaper by about a buck. I've tried the smaller one and like it better than the big one. I do like the fact they are refillable but haven't seen an offering for the refills. At work they are the hot item for the Anima artists. They like the intensity of the colors for the cartoons. I'm still waiting to give full judgement at this point, since I'm still playing with them & as it seems a rather pricey pen. Maybe the price will drop after the initial interest subsides. And for those that want more info there's their link. www.copicmarker.com ~C8> piecesandpom 03-28-2008, 06:21 PM I also bought the smaller ones 'cause that's what the LSS initially stocked on their shelves and they are a buck or more cheaper. It's worth reading the literature on them, what the 'codes' on the colors mean, etc. I'm liking them because I seem to be able to control my coloring better than with dye markers. But, I do have to remember which cardstock to use, what type of ink for the initial image and make sure it's dry (alcohol and alcohol creates mud!), etc. The best advise I've seen is to buy a few (so for spring play I'm working with my three pinks and a couple of yellows, for instance) and play with them so you haven't invested tons of money and don't feel badly if they just don't work for you. Stacia 03-28-2008, 07:34 PM Is there a good place to buy these markers at a good price???? alsmouse 03-28-2008, 11:36 PM Is there a good place to buy these markers at a good price???? It depends on where you are. city/state please. ~C8> stampin stacy 03-29-2008, 08:11 AM Lots of places/companies are starting to carry them. My local stamp store, Imprints in Fort Worth just ordered a bunch of them when they were at CHA and are having a class on how to use and blend them in April. Ann is right it will depend on where you live, don't forget to check out Art Supply stores too. BTW, welcome to RSC Stacia, I like your name :p , :D piggy30 03-29-2008, 02:00 PM My stamp store is going to offer a class with them so I think I'm going to go for it and add another tool to my supplies. I guess one can never have to many stamping supplies (or orchids in my case)! piecesandpom 03-30-2008, 05:50 PM Oh, a real class on them! Wish I was there. . .it's amazing how much faster you can learn through a class instead of playing on your own. On the other hand, playing helps happy mistakes that can be quite lovely, too! fnaeve@heartsintouch.com 04-06-2008, 07:54 AM I was just wondering if anyone had any personal experience with them. Frances / HIT Rubber Stamps paperprincess 04-25-2008, 08:02 AM I haven't bought any copics yet....I still haven't been "convinced"!! There are just so many other things to buy :) I think I would like to try them first, so I'll wait for a friend to buy them and then I'll go to her place to play! Shera 05-30-2008, 08:27 PM I don't think they are worth the money- i have tried using them and compared with just using odorless mineral spirits and pencil crayons NOT worth going out an investing. I do like that you can color odd things tho- like ribbon, etc. But I don't need another expensive tool addiction! jaspepper 06-12-2008, 01:25 AM :applause: I have found these pens at Hobby Lobby and they run about $5.99 but a lot of times they will be on sale for 25% off so you could try a couple of them and see how you like them. They have them in the Art Dept. Also, you could use a 40% off coupon. They also have a DVD for $9.99 that shows different techniques. piggy30 06-14-2008, 05:42 PM Took the class today on using Copic markers and got my first 10. These are great! The colors are extremely vibrant and when you color with them, you don't get those marker lines. It all looks like one even color. And there are so many colors! They beat pencils and Tombows hands down. I've spent all day playing with them and making flap books. Cathy Frenchy 06-30-2008, 02:29 PM I LOVE my copics! They do have a bit of a learning curve on them, so buy a few to shade with and give yourself some time to play with them. stmpstone 06-30-2008, 06:14 PM I've been stamping about 15 years. Almost that many years I've see a couple sets of alcohol ink pens. I think one set was called Studio II and I'm not sure of the others. I remember they were pricey. I wondered if these were more of the same. Does anybody remember these that is now using the Copic Markers? All my Studio II dried out and I tossed 'em. They were pricey too and I felt bad just tossing them out. I guess the company that made them, made their money on them and moved on. Having been burned once, I'm not anxious to try them unless somebody knows that this isn't the same product and I won't have the same experience. Any thoughts on these? hugs Claudia in Las Vegas piggy30 07-01-2008, 04:19 PM These are now all the rage among artists now. They sell refills for the pens, so although they are pricey at first, the refills are extremely reasonable. And I don't remember loving my Studio II pens as much as I love my Copics! And I guess with any company no one can guarantee that they will stick around. They do sell a lot of these because they are always sold out of some color or other but with 300ish colors, there is always a substitution that they can make. harrishart 07-29-2008, 09:41 AM I bought a few and I'm having a hard time using them. I guess it's because I'm 'new' to coloring. I don't know how to color with them. I'll have to give them another chance. I've just re-discovered my pencils and that Goo Gone pen and I think that works great! Fliss 07-29-2008, 01:14 PM Some great information at the site below. I have not come across Copic Markers in the UK yet, but when I do I will certainly get back to this site. Hope it helps you out. xx http://www.ilikemarkers.blogspot.com/ elisablaze 07-29-2008, 08:34 PM I have started a collection as well. I am not good at coloring,, well not yet anyways :) I have learned that you can't use the Copics on embossed images...silver or gold. I am not sure about the other colors. I do love all the pretty colors in my holder<grin> jaspepper 08-12-2008, 12:26 AM Hobby Lobby has them on sale quite often so that is a good time to buy them. Also, you can use a 40% coupon as well. I did color my stamp in with them and then spray the water diluted alcohol and it produces great results - but the alcohol will dry out the stamps if used too often. Hope this helps. |
