Oh fun! So many moons. Maybe we could do the "many moons to choose from." Each person could do one with whatever moon they want to do. We'd get quite an assortment, and see what everyone does to make it look nice/awesome.

Ok - so we got married during National Weddings month; I thought we were being thoughtful of mom's teaching schedule. :)

I'm in and don't really have any preferences on the theme. I only have 1 moon stamp so that's a little tough for me. Then again, I'm finding out that I certainly don't yet have a stamp collection like lots of you folks so I'll improvise whatever when the theme is determined.

Potato Lovers Month National (EGAD! I don't have ANY potato stamps! )

February-2- Groundhog Day
February- 5- Shrove Tuesday(Marti Gras)-Christianity
Febuary-7- Chinese New Year- Year of the Rat (Yup, Tucker has his own year)
February-12- Lincoln’s Birthday
February-18-Washington’s Birthday also Known as President’s Day
February-29-Leap Year Day

I think any of these has great potential! Granted, Tucker's New Year swap is already being arranged in another thread, but the lil guy only gets his year once every 12 & with rats having rather short lives, I think whooping it up in his ratty honor would be a good thing while we have the chance. :D

Me, too!

Since I raise, train & show dogs (and used to raise & show cats) I vote for "Responsible Pet Owner" or "Prevent a Litter Month." I have a perfect pair of stamps for that - and never get to use them.

But I'll make any theme.

But you can be. There is a special stamp store just down the road from you, just head there and you can pick up some lovely stamps & inks. The name of the stamp store may change depending on the area you live in but we all have them. Mine is Winco, yours may be Kroger, Piggly Wiggly, Food Stop or some other great name. Head to the produce aisle & there is a wide range of available stamps, potatos, carrots, turnips, parsnips, and beets (I like them as they are self inking). You will also find some inks there too, spinich, chard, beets, koolaid are all lovely & if they have the easter items out the dye sets are fun too. you can also use cut plant life to make stamps, a sliced artichoke or small lettuce is lovely. A mushroom is good too. Plus all the fun stuff you can find in all the aisles. Have fun shopping for new stamps & inks. (you should see what can be done with natural easter eggs);) ~C8>

Suggestions for the Feburary card swap?? There are only a few suggestions and players this time. Com'on all you lurkers & newbies, join us. It's a fun swap and there is a great group of people here. Inky, you need to narrow down your suggestion instead of listing the whole calender that I posted. That's cheating. So, please feel free to suggest a theme for the Feburary card swap, I'm closing the suggestions in the morning & voting will be till the
3ed. The theme reveal will be on February 4th, the mail by date will be February 22ed. ~C8>

OK, I'll pick one theme...National Cherry Month!

We all get to haul out the fruit stamps & make something cheery to look at during these cold dark winter days.

That's my idea & I'm stickin' with it...unless the group out votes me, then I'll go with the group 'cause sending myself a cherry card wouldn't be much of a surprise.

I can probably do something with cherries unless that's in my missing extra unmounted bag that I never found! I'm liking the color aspect - different from Valentine red. So that's my vote!

alsmouse
01-30-2008, 08:48 PM
We have a wide range of themes for the voting so here are the choices:
Moons
Weddings
Responsible Pet Ownership
Potatoes
Surprise Theme
Cherries

If we get the results fast we can get started fast. I'll otherwise anounce the results on the 3ed. ~C8>

So, I still vote for moons.

There will be NO! 'whizzed' on cards here:)). Tucker already has his own card swap so he dosen't get another. He's getting to be quite full of himself what with us letting him pick the colors for the tags so I really don't want him to think he is all that if we let him pick this theme too. Since we are all so undecided Maybe a surprise theme is in order. If is going to be such a surprise, do we still want to do a 1-4-1 or do we want to do a 1-4-each? There are only 6 players this time. You all decide, I'm just the host. ~C8>

For me, how many depends on the mailing due date. If it's later in the month; one for everyone is good with me. I'll have more free time after Valentines and Dead Presidents day. (lots of signage for Presidents' Day Sales and specials, and favors, displays, and gift baskets for Valentines) So, if the mailing date is about the 22nd or before; realisticly i would be more likely to finish and mail just one or maybe two cards in a timely manner. :o

Inky Whiskers
02-02-2008, 03:27 PM
I'm with j3annin3 on the mailing. A due date after mid month will work better for getting multiple cards to folks, once we decide what we want to do that is. :D At this point any topic is fine with me. I just wanna stamp sumthin!

I did find my cherry stamp today - stuck to my transparency sheet as promised in another thread! Fortunately I know how to get the cling off and I can use Tack It Over and Over if we go with a cherry theme for the swap. I'm so glad I didn't use cling with all my unmounteds!

Inky Whiskers
02-02-2008, 07:51 PM
I'm so glad I didn't use cling with all my unmounteds!

Remember, it isn't the cling that causes the permenent bonding. It's the office quality transparencies used for storage. So if you pull any cling mounted stamps that haven't bonded yet, you can still use them as is and just store them on a different surface.

I don't have this issue with my HALOS mounted stamps. :D

j3annin3

-yes three times. It all sounds good to me. But i am open to a common to the group theme if that's what the majority would like to do. But the 25th as the mailing due date would be very nice. It would make things go much smoother for me. :)

ummm?, by one for all you are meaning we all send one of our cards to each of the other swappers? in this case, 6 players so far? or did you mean the other way, we all make just one card to send?

Since we have so few playing this month: one of our cards to each of the other swappers, in this case, 6 players = cards. That's only if everyone aggres with all 3 yesses to the revised due date, theme & amount made. ~C8>

Ok, yes to 6 cards, yes to surprise theme and what's the other yes? The date of the 25th? Sounds good to me.

I mostly have my itty bitty stamps on the cling so I'm going to pull them off, get most of the sticky stuff off and get some of the thinner cling before I put them back in the binder on the right kind of storage page. I was trying to figure out why some of my UMs weren't stamping well so I was trying out the cling - too much ink from new pads and not enough 'give' in the surface underneath the paper versus the block and my pressure as I've learned over time. I do just as well most of the time with doublestick tape and an acrylic block, just need to wash the sticky off the acrylic block.

Have you tried stamping with a sheet of fun foam under the paper to add cushion from the bottom? I find that useful, especially with larger images that sometimes leave voids in the center. Also, Undo works well at loosening tape from surfaces & didn't hurt my acrylic blocks when I used it to help remove a thick layer of 2 way glue. Lots of hot soapy water & some elbow grease finished the cleaning and left me with shiny clear blocks. :D

To change to topic from Tucker's droppings (not that it isn't a fascinating topic-- :)) ) , I'm strongly leaning towards cherries, or Responsible pets (which leads me again to Tucker's droppings), or cherries again. I think I'm leaning towards cherries. If not to stamp--at least to eat! :D

"Per Marstamper" Would the "surprise" be whatever we want to stamp, or would it be a theme picked by your highness....Tucker?..."

To change the topic, the theme is what ever catches your fancy to stamp, it would be a 1-4-each swap(6) and would have a mail date of Feb. 25th to allow for the amount of cards.
So "your highness....Tucker" neither will be picking the theme. No, my crown is in the shop for re-gilding. :)) I don't pick the theme on the swaps, you do, I'm just the host. You as a group of players pick the theme & vote on it. I list the monthly events & holidays to help guide the thought process & spark ideas. I list your suggestions, post them for voting, (log my choice on a seperate log), tally the votes, and post the results. I only add my vote at the end of the tally process to avoid swaying the results.
Tucker only picks the 1-4-1 swappers if we have a lot of players. The only other thing that Tucker picks are the colors of the color challange tags. :D That's what's in his job description.
I try very hard to keep the process as unbiased as possible. That's why Tucker does the cheese whiz partner swap choices. All he is interested in is the cheese whiz, he can't read & could care less about the outcome. As for the color challange swap color choices. Rats are color blind. they see in shades of black/white/grays. They are terrible interior decoraters. :)) So He is perfect for picking the colors. I lay them out color down in a circle & he walks around them, as he sniffs them, the ones he pays the most attention to get picked. I have only tossed one of his combos out because it was so awful it looked like a baby's diaper. I nearly gagged when I flipped his color choices. ~C8>

Got Inky's card today, first one! It was lurking between car insurance info - two - and haven't opened them yet! Love the extra bits. . .eldest went through a cherry stage so I think I'll recycle them to a scrapbook page for her.

I'm looking forward to the other cards wherever they are. . .like how did ArtKar get my card before some of the closer folks? ? ?

Talk about feast after the famine! I got THREE swap cards today!!!

Marstamper, your Easter card is oh so sweet.

Piecesandpom's card is a great example of function & form working together beautifully.

ArtKar's artful message was received loud & clear and I totally agree that pet parents who love their furry kids should neuter them and that breeders do indeed have a moral responsibility to make sure that their animals breed healthy.

You ladies did a wonderful job!!! :applause: I can't wait to see the other cards on the way. :D

Even tho' our wonderful Amy has offered to move swaps to the maker's galleries, doing this takes time she may not always have handy. So some of us are trying a 'new' approach where those of use who can scan or take digi-photos email them to the swap maker who can then upload them with the info and in the appropriate gallery. I'm still quite willing to upload swaps to my gallery space & then send the info to Amy so she can move them later, but if you'd like to do the loading yourself, let me know. :D

Hi everyone,

Work pretty much attacked me in a very bad way in February :swear: I've received cards from Inky, j3annin3, ArtKar, and marstamper.

Today, I've actually sat in my craft room looking at stamps--as opposed to sitting in the computer room working on the computer. (Some room, different functions!) :confusion:

Cards *will* go out soon! At least as soon as I figure out what I'm doing! :)) :confusion:

Thanks for your patience. And bad, bad work--for making joan work too, too hard!

Yesterday I got cards from Jenna and Karlene.

Karlene....loved that about stupid people!! At work there is a saying that says "We work because the Medicaid people depend on us." (I work in a doctors office. And I hope that doesn't offend anyone.) I just thought it was funny to get your card, right after they posted that sign at work! :noway:

Thank you Jenna. I had to sweep the floor after I opened the cheery cherry card. :))

Both were very nice! Thanks to both of you.

Today I got cards from Jeannine, and Alsmouse. Cute, cute alsmouse. I think you should have put the cat jumping over the rat. :D

Jeannine, you do very nice work, too. I would never have thought to put a leaf in the heart like that! Looks great! I also liked the way you combined those colors!

Thanks to you all. You have really made my week great with all these cards!!

I am in the stamping mood now. Guess I will go get to it! Besides, have some new color pencils I can't wait to break in.

A~ How clever of you to pick such an ellusive holiday, Ms. Mouse! A rare treat for the eyes. :D

Oh Karen! love the greens you used! So soft and friendly.

Thank you both! Great and usefull, informative, and pretty. Great Cards!

Thank you all for your kind words about mine.

Don't be concerned joanofgos, i'm glad to see you in the thread! Is there more bad bad work still waiting for you?

Sort of. They don't really bark. Unless you have a black & white - they do a single "woof" with great effort. They're a hunting dog from the Congo of Africa. A tribesman there would rather trade his favorite wife than trade his best basenji.

Glad you liked the card!

Karlene, I thought Basenji kinda yodeled softly. The only one I had regular contat with had a soft 'song' that he would express himself with but I never knew if that was normal for the breed or if it was because he survived distemper. I do know he was one of the sweetist dogs I have ever been around & very loyal. After meeting "Max" I was sold on the breed. Too bad I can't have pets here. The only reason I am allowed Tucker is that he is a Therapy pet. Give yours a big hug for me please.~C8>

:) What sort of therapy do you give him alsmouse?

well, he gets psychotherapy after having me for his mom, but in real life he gets regular respirataory therapy for his mycoplaysia( kinda like rat asthma) where he sits in a nebulizer box with medicine pumped in in a ultra fine mist & then after he gets liquid meds too. Keeps his lungs clear & keeps him from snoring. Yes, rats can snore, it sounds like little squeeks but it is snoring for them.
As for the therapy part, it is for me, he is cheaper & more fun than prozac. I even have a perscription for having a therapy pet. ~C8>

Miss Swish came into my family as a therapy pet too, 'script and all. But i suspect that most pets just naturally fill that job nicely. Those that have a fur friend and didn't need a 'script are either allowed to have pets without one or are just wise enough to get a pet for themselves anyway. :) What would we be without them?

I can't imagine not having a pet. I searched and searched for my first apt/condo to ensure I could have a pet, not that I did yet, but in case I decided I needed one. Pieces is the replacement for my first, on my own, cat - he survived roommates, two baby brothers (oops, bi-laws said only one pet and I got away with three at one point in time), two boyfriends (one is my hubby), a move to a house, two human girl babies and the girls' first two kittens/cats.

Hum, should have done more research in dog breeds. Hubby is still having fits over Pom's barking although Pom is much better now than he used to be!

what a happy card alsmouse! even the cat is smiling! You did a really spiffy job of cutting both the cat and the foam, impressive. :)

Thank you very much!

Miss Swish is my second cat too. Fishface was my first and most special cat.
She was a used pussy, i got her from the newpaper. And she hated me, hated being at my apartment, hated being away from her boy....who shipped out with his Navy buddies. She wouldn't eat, or drink even though i tried every cat food i could find. I was concerened that'd she rather die than live with me. I had an appointment to take her to the vet for some kind of making her eat thing. Then after at least 4 days of drinking nothing; i felt this enourmous Thump, (it woke me up in a minor panic), and there she was, sitting on my chest washing her paw. She reeked of warm albacore tuna i'd put out for her that night. I said "Uck! Fishface!" and she merowed back and did almost everytime i called her that in all the years that followed. I miss her still. Miss Swish is a great cat and firmly has a peice of my heart; but Fishface was and is a peice of my soul i think.

Do you miss your first cat, Karen? Or is Pom your soul kitty?

Yes, I do miss him. I'm going to pretend he's the one on Alsmouse' card. He was a gentleman, greeted folks at the door and then went and did his own thing unless he thought he needed to make his presence known. He was terrific with both kids (his sibling was terrorized by infants!), stayed with me while hubby worked nights (our other two, not Pieces, will sometimes take turns now and then), and was a protective lurker when required.

He was also a very low maintenance cat, didn't really fight the toms in the neighborhood, really just got older with the exception of knee surgery required just as we were moving into the house. . . I couldn't leave him alone weekends when he was a kitten and I visited my boyfriend so we snuck him via pocketbook into boyfriend's apartment for a couple of months when he was wee little. Oops, don't tell hubby that story. . .

Pets rate right up there in my book!! I don't know how anyone survives without pets. My last cat I miss terribly. He was Mr. Tutters....thought of himself as King Tut! LOL Loved him dearly!!

I guess that is why I referred to Almouse's pet as His Highness. Aren't they all??? LOL

Now I have 3 cats and a dog. They have their own pecking order, and sometimes they change it around. hahaha

Well, Pom is on very thin ground right now. Somehow this weekend he found marstamper's envie and card. There are tooth marks in the envie but no damage to the card. He was saved on that one.

Unfortunately last week he decided that my Secret Santa bookmark was too much fun and destroyed half of it, ribbons first, of course. No saving that one, tooth marks everywhere. Still haven't decided whether or not to forgive him for that one, 'specially since Tucker helped with that one!

Was that a homemade bookmark, or a store bought one? The brain is fuzzy. If you haven't tossed it, send it back to me & I'll see if I can do miracles.
What has changed in the house or family that would put Pom in a snit??That behavior is equal to a teen being a teen & acting up. Think back to something that may have started it. ~C8>

This was hand-made, beautiful and I definitely boo-hooed when I found ribbon here, bits of paper everywhere.

He was in a snit because it was a Sat or Sun morning and folks were sleeping in instead of feeding, walking or playing with him. Also, he'd been 'checking' the bookmark out for a while; he thinks many things on this particular coffee table might be of great interest. Poms like to take things, 'bury' them - read hide them on themselves - and then rediscover or maul and eat/attack them later. He's a stitch when he hides a treat behind one of his stuffed teddies and then acts like the teddy is hiding it from him or growls at the teddy as if teddy is going to eat it!

Another Mgr at work raises show Poms, verified odd behavior so it isn't too much of a surprise. They do like the ownership of something. They can act silly too with the games but i've never heard of them doing it with a stuffy. :)) ~C8>

He's only growled at the teddy a few times and each time we're puzzled until we see that he's really stashed a treat near it. He sounds as tho' he really thinks the teddy is going to roll over and eat his treat. He frightened my hubby and daughter until I showed them what Pom's problem was. They do need mothering!
